Default rear of car floats

I have a 2000 trans am with 151000 miles. When I go down the road it feels like the rear of the car floats or is loose. I cant see anything loose. Anyone got any ideas or had this problem, I'd like to hear from you.

How do I check the shocks, and if they are bad what would be good to replace them with?

You can't really check them forse without a shock dyno. Yes, they exist. You could buy a new one and then compare them by hand. I don't think you could really tell much of a difference though. You have to put big forces down fast and see which orifice passes fluid too quickly...

To be honest your shocks were probably worn within 30 to 50K. Useless by 70K.
My car had 34K when I got it. But new QA1's on by 48K and never looked back. Stock sucks.

What TorqueSS said. Check the obvious things first, that means check all rear suspension bolts, especially the PHR if you are feeling some bobbing with a little side-to-side. :o I'd be checking that....now. Lift up the rear and take the time to "nut-and-bolt" it, put a wrench on everything to sure everything is at least tight--Panhard Rod, LCAs, torque arm, sway bar. It doesn't take 15 mins. Then you at least know its safe to drive and you can worry later about something more involved, like replacing your shocks, if you don't find the culprit right away.

^^^ if the *** pulls to the left then it could be involving lower control arm bushings, because after i switched to new lower control arms and poly grease bushings, when ever the rear comes loose it keeps going straight unless i start moving the steering wheel
