Default High HP Guys Not Using BS3 - Knock Sensor Question

What are the guys pushing 1000 plus doing about knock sensors when running a tuning software such as HP tuners? I know that BS3 allows you to eliminate them and run a valley cover that is solid with no provisions for sensors. I am not for sure if I will run into problems though if I keep my knock sensors and tune with HP 3 bar. My setup is in my sig fyi.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Cody B.

Should be able to tune around that.

Are you worried about the seals around the knock sensors? Because you could run into a problem with crankcase pressure around the sensors.

Thats what I've heard. I have a book on High HP LS1/6's and in it, it showcases W2W building an F1R C5R 427. In it, they use a solid valley cover and mention that they tend to favor it in high boost applications for the very reason you mentioned. I'm just wondering if that's definitely a problem or a nice to have, piece of mind kind of deal.

Oh...you can make anything fit

Seriously though...It can fit in there with the supplied J bracket from Procharger. The thing is though, fitment of the air cleaner for daily driving is tough to get on...but if you're going strip only w/no cleaner...no prob.

i would definitely not worry about the knock sensor seals being a problem with FI. if you are blowing past those seals (with proper crank ventilation elsewhere) you have big big problems.

i bet w2w was running a lot of crankcase vacuum and is why they needed to be sealed up.

also no knock control with bs3 is standard, but i have run knock control on mine for a while as well.

The seals would leak when the vac sucked them out, thats why we deleted them.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I don't plan on running a sealed crankcase, so as long as I have a good vent elsewhere that isn't causing restrictions enough to put a load on the knock sensor seals, I should be good.

Will a dry sump setup pull enough vacuum on the bottom side of the crankcase with the scavenge lines to cause any issues? I don't plan on running a vacuum pump like Kurt mentioned, but I will probably go to a dry sump setup once I decide to turn more RPM's.

I just welded up my stock plate and added fittings for the breather tank. MightyMouse, can you PM me in regards to the knock control and the BS3?
