Regular hose water in a coolant flush
Well it is about time to do a coolant flush on the ol' z28. Did it today, ran it with water and flush for about 45 minutes. Then ran hose water through the motor untill the water cleared up. Filled it up with 2 gallons of Dex Crap, so I guess almost 2 gallons of hose water were left in the motor.
This is the way I always do a flush. But, is it bad?
Really? ? ? ?

Its bad to have hose water in there as your coolant. You should have gone to the food store and bought 2 gallons of distilled water to use for coolant along with the Dex.
NOW...how bad hose water is really depends on what you read. I personally use distilled water every time I refill my coolant just because it only costs $2.00. But I heard it is bad to use hose water.
Also, 2 gallons of Dex is WAAAAAAAY too much. All you need is half a gallon to one gallon, and the rest water.

1 bottle of water wetter
Half gallon Dex
The rest distilled water
You won't run cooler with any other mixture/combo. I know, I live in HOT *** Miami and thats what I use in my 427ci stroker, it never gets to the 210 mark on my guage no matter how I drive it.
50/50 Water-Dex is a complete waste of Dex. No need. All you need is half gallon Dex mainly for lubrication and yeah, I guess corrosion inhibitors can't hurt.

We shall see how this mix goes. I really don't want to redo anything or spend money again right now.
The important thing to me was to flush out the crud out of my cooling system and to wash out the over flow reservoir.

sounds like you did a whole radiotor and engine flush i belive doing this does take more then half of dex-cool because you also removed everything from the engine but im not sure just saying use the search button and see what you come up with. The way i do is i remove all the radiator watar/coolant from my radiotar and the hoses and replace the thermostat and then fill with half can of Dex-cool then all water till its gets filled. Thats how i do it. I have never taken the coolantout of the the whole engine block just the radiator. Hope this helps.

Don't get all hung up on these MORONS that say you have to flush every year or every 20,000 miles, or whatever............if you have a tight coolant system it doesn't matter what the hell you do to flush some **** out of it, when you putg it back together normally klike it should be....its gonna run just fine.
Its not that complicated.................

really, hose water is not a big deal but it does have chemicals and other things in it that causes corrosion. on the other hand dex-cool has corrosion preventative in it so if you do flush it again when necessary than everything should be fine. i personally don't mind putting distilled water in because its cheap and i just get it while im out picking up the dex-cool.

If you want the best mix for the hot place that you live.
1 bottle of water wetter
Half gallon Dex
The rest distilled water

Old cars that had iron blocks, heads, and brass raditors always called for distilled water.
LS1 cars call for drinkable tap water and coolant. It only touches aluminum and plastic and a few brass plugs and sensors.
I think it's ok to do what the manufacturer recommends and use tap water.
Now the poll says filtered water, I didn't vote.
Theres also a lot of talk about hose water, now thats very subjective to where that water comes from, if it comes from a well then maybe no is the answer.
But if you can drink it and it tastes good I'd guarantee it's not going to hurt your cooling system.

Water wetter is a substance that thins out the water, wll kind of. It is suppose to make the water safe to use in your cooling system while increasing it's boiling point/cooling ability.
I think it is crap for a Daily Driver. Drag car that gets it's fluid changed every dozen runs is a different story.

In short, water wetter keeps air bubbles from attaching to hot spots, mainly in the heads, which will reduce the cooling transfer of heat from the metal heads and other parts to the coolant thats flowing through the engine/heads to carry heat back to the radiator.
