i prefer regular valvoline dex III non-synthetic. i had the mobil synthetic aft in it but had syncro issues and couldn't power shift. its built to a stage 4 btw. so you may not have any problems with the synthetics.

also it seems alot of people like the honda atf.

i used Oreiley auto store brand with no probs at all, even with power shifting, had Royal Purpul in if before cltuch swap, gears grinding a bit right after putting it in, so i went back to a non synthetic...shouldn't be any reason to use a synthetic fluid in the t56...if you think about it?

I went with Mobil 1 ATF because of the recommendation on Six Speeds Inc. I can say that now my synchros feel "dry" or rough - like they're not well lubed enough and not doing their job. Like the stuff is too thin. I don't have the smooth shifts like before ... and this is with normal shifting.

They may have changed their recommendation. This is from their post in the FAQ sticky:
Q: What transmission fluid do you recommend?

A: We use Mobil 1 ATF in all of our daily drivers. While Mobil 1 is what is desired some customers have trouble finding it in there locations. We also use GM Synchromesh. Royal Purple should not be used in a stock transmission as it has been known to cause premature blocker ring wear.
