Default speedo and start-up?

When I start up my SS the speedometer goes all the way to like 100mph then slowly back down on the initial start-up...along with the tach! The tack should move obviously but why the speedo; I never noticed this before.

Is the trip odometer resetting to zero also? If it is check the battery for low voltage or bad connections at the terminals.

did you do anything with the cluster recently??

I know whenever I take mine out and put it back in it will do that. It is a one time occurance though. It is def related to your cluster loosing power and regaining it again. Take it out and check connections or your fuses.

Your battery is about to die on you. I had an EXTREMELY similiar issue with my car.

Is it a little hard to crank? Do you have a multimeter? Measure the standing voltage without the car running. If it's in the 11V or less, then the battery is on it's last legs. A cell is on it's way out.

It's a documented problem with the 1999 model years. Search, its all in here. GM has a TBS for it.
