Okay. This thread isn't about an awesome kill, or a horrible let down. This isn't about how our beautiful American Muscle trashed on some piece of shit import. No. This is about how to spot the folks who, while protecting us on occasion, also enjoy hampering our fun. So, I propose this be stickied, and we list, by state, how we individually spot cops. Or just in general. I'll start off with how I spot them in Missouri -

Headlights! All Crown Vic lights are the same, but here in MO, they have clear turn signals. They also run with their brights on. Aways. Secondly, black wheels with silver center caps. ALL the police vehicles around here run with those. Third: Obviously, the colors. These varry by state. Here in MO, it tends to run Black front quater panels\hood, white doors\roof, and then black trunk\quarter panels, with white and reflective silver lettering.

Another thing to look for in Missouri is.. get this: un marked Dodge Caravans. Yes, you read right. Anyways, feel free to update this with your own forms of spotting cops, and how we can all prevent one another from getting pulled over, if possible.

ct- crown vis are obvious, stateys are blue or grey, with shiney lettering and racks (always watch for the amber corners at night), if it is unmarked and tinted crown vic it usually is a statey but you can tell by the police interceptor badge on the driverside of the trunk :D
they have too many uc cars to list, but the mains to look out for is the chargers these days, black or silver tinted out but you can usually tell by the antena on the back window.

ri- silver chargers and blue crown vics

if behind them the crown vics usually have a black panel on the back and of course the Government Service Tags...

i usually spot them with my radar detecter lol

In Maryland beware of jeep libertys and a silver honda accord. My jaw dropped when i saw an unmarked accord pull someone over on rt 29. Also unmarked large chevy and ford suv's. Those SUV's have gotten me twice now.

Black and white Chargers and CVPI's here. There are more and more "civilian" looking ones, stock wheels, more civilian colors like dark red and light blue, being outfitted with police equipment and being used by the PD's. They also use Ford Expeditions and the State Troopers use CVPI's and Suburbans.

In NY the state troopers have navy blue crown vics with reflective yellow tape on both sides. They've changed to the stupid low and thin headlights, making them less visible and more aerodynamic. Basically, if it's a crown vic slow the hell down. There is also a police tahoe and two police camaros that frequent route I-90, probably the biggest interstate in NY (buffalo to boston).Supposedly they're switching to the new impala, which would be a serious pain because all the new chevy sedans have the same (or similar) front.

i saw a new style black impala on the tv show "speeders"...you couldnt even tell it was a cop car until he flipped the lights on...he had the lights inside at the top of the front glass and hiddin behind the grill...very sneaky...and around here u gotta watch out for the UC chargers like everyone else said, my dad pulled me over in a black uc charger when they first got them, lol...Also not sure if they still have it, but a town 30mins from mine had a yellow uc 00-04 gt mustang when street racing was REAL popular over there..

1. Crown Vics (of course) - Marked/Unmarked
2. Chargers - Black and always hard to spot
3. BMW R1100 bikes - Yeah those are really easy to see
4. Late-model Impalas - Deputy Sheriffs drive them
5. Tahoes - Black or silver and always unmarked
6. G35 sedans - Silver/Black. I nearly pissed my pants when I saw one.
7. Dodge Stratus - Of all things. I think I'd just speed up a little.

AZ is a lot of crown vics

But there was an undercover silverado I have seen pull a few people over, and it has as large as, or at least as large as 18 inch rims.

Tons of undercover crown vics too, in various neutral colors. See a crown vic, slow the fuck down, and wait until you see the "G" on the plate, or the handicap sign.

The problem with AZ though, is that assholes drive decommissioned crown vics, and have all the radio crap and random mirrors still attached, so it's hard to tell sometimes.

Here in AZ they have undercover cars with standard plats, if you see any car with uber dark tent especially an chevy SUV mind your p's and q's if you are able to look inside they laptop and laser radar unit are a dead give away. that laser sure is hard to beat btw.

Doesn't matter much here anyways the majority of people don't pay attention people get popped all the time by the 4 year old speed cameras that have a warning sign. and I don't mean new implants people who have lived here a while.

Honestly the cops aren't nazis here in AZ most people who get pulled over deserve it here, doing 95 in a 65 ETC. The one time I was pulled over it was for 58 in a 40 and the cop wrote it up 45 in a 40 (veteran plates paying off I guess) Apparently here in Mesa they are no longer allowed to write a warning.

my town also has 1 couple chargers. one of them looks like its a v6. female cop drives that car. i talked to a the guy that drives one and he assures me its a v8. i doubt he would pop the hood though.
in illinois i have seen state troopers with a few older mustangs. we have a couple cops in surrounding towns with yukons and suburbans but mostly just the regular crown vics. when i went to hawaii years back i remember seeing a mustang cobra r all done up with the lights and paint. it was at waikiki(spelling) beach.

Columbus area Ohio almost all are crown vic. all ohio staties are white crown vics. if i do some travelin i hook up the cb radio. it looks like shit on the car but it works much better than just a radar detector. the truckers all talk to each other and in ohio staties are called polar bears *NOTE: magnetic cb anteas dont stay on after 120! haha learned that one from experience

No. Ga ... WAY NORTH .. ANY AND ALL HILLS .. and there is allot.. from dalton, ga to the Tn line..

NORTH BOUND

The hill before exit 345

STATE:Likes to sit on Exit 345 and radar as you come under overpass also

They like to hide behind the bridge supports on the inside of the road

Co. they like to sit one of two ways ..
NON-holiday they are on the left hand side standing outside front door with radar..NOTE* PER a Officer i know ( Quote:YOUR RADAR DETECTOR IS WORTH ZERO IN GA..End Quote) He stated that the radar they have in GA is like a gun.. its only active when they pull the trigger .. so if your going to race or speed in ga do it goin UP hill :D

And Holidays they sit SIDEWAYS ???? on the right hand side... ( forgot to ask why that was)

The hottest spot for tickets in that stretch is the HILL AFTER MILE 350 they are ALWAYS There left side near bottom of the hill again with the gun type radar.. so detectors dont work :bang:

SOUTH BOUND

Ga State sometimes sits in a Crack between the GA gardrail and the Tn cement wall ( hard to see) At the Tenn Line

Very Next hill Exit 353 they sit on that hill ( ITs right before the Welcome center for GA)

State: sits up behind the gardrail on the right side ( REAL HARD TO SEE .. i got one of those tickets)

Co. sits on the flat part on the right hand side in a Knotch of the center divider (kinda hard to see)

ALL Ga police use the GUN radar and will stand in the crack of their door truned around shooting behind them or up hill ..

One last thing .. I havesnt seen them do this this year.. they were bad about it last year.. not sure why Some Ga. popo will sit at the top of an exit on the left hand side radaring you as you come under the overpass .. for some reason i alway look even though im speeding and would be caught by then.

I still Look :D

Hope that helps y'all

Well here in Florida mainly in the Gulf breeze there is a F-150 white in color no out side markings. The sun visors flip down to revel lights and the tool box in the back pop up and more lights with the word police across the back.

This one is most likely every where. When traveling on the interstate be on the look out for the bold white lines that span across the two lane. When you run over the first line appox. a 1/4 mile ahead there will be another one. This is a SPEED trap. There is a plane way high in the sky you will never see it. I now this one from experiance. So if you are hauling as* slam on the brakes before you get to the second line.

In Pensacola crossing over nine mile road on USHY29 the FHP they love to hide at the Dave howell tires.
Chargers are also here in threw out the tristate area.

yea its rare to see an o.g. crown vic cop anymore in Charlotte, they are mostly for domestic crimes and murders and shit. the main cars they drive now are unmarked hidden light impala's. they also drive unmarked hidden light malibu's, tahoe's. i've seen a few minivan's but i think those are the fed's. also recently CMPD has aquired a bunch of cars from a street racing bust. including a turbo riced out tinted out 350z, and a 500rwhp t.e.r.m.y.

They have all kinds of cars in VA. It's getting harder and harder to spot. The UC cop cars have plain tags but usually 5% tint. Let me see if I can get a list together here...

Marked:
1. Crown Vics for VA Beach police and Chesapeake
2. Cheaspeake also have the new impalas
3. Charger's for State Troopers (they look badass)
4. Tahoe's and Suburbans for marked K-9s
5. The beach has a few beetles. yea thats right. VW Bug's
6. Expeditions for the SGT's usually

Unmarked (here's where it gets tricky):
1. State Troopers have uc chargers and impalas plain tags. I've seen a bunch of different colors. Black, Blue, Red, Silver, White and most all of them have 5% tint
2. 2-3 LS1 Camaros are in the area.
3. 1-2 LS1 Vettes

Point is be careful. That's all I can come up with now.

dude i totally feel you on that one. you'll be driving down the I-17 and see a black crown vic huge antenna's and all tinted and even says police interceptor, and you slowly creep up on them totally thinking its a cop only to notice there are like 15 small children in the back and the mother and father up front. ( nothing against mexicans, shit my girl of almost two years is one) but the hispanics are usually the ones driving the out of commision cop cars since they goto all the auctions.

i think they should at least make them take off the police interceptor badge because thats like impersonating a police officer.

Don't speed on the section on highway 6 between 290 and college station. There is construction, there are always state troopers, and they will get you. They hide very well, so just dont speed through there.

The Sam Houston tollway in Houston never used to be patrolled, but now they are all over it. They are mostly in new impalas. They will sit on the on ramps with their door open with a radar gun and shoot uncoming traffic.

For the Ohio boys:

As stated before the patol cars in Ohio are run-of-the-mill crown vics but other forms of transportation are also utilized.
The highway patrol maintains a nice little fleet of prop planes to catch speeders. US 70 is one the most watched stretches of highway by these planes. If they see that one or more vehicles seems to be speeding they will calcualte your speed with stop watches as you pass the white markers on the sides of the road. Each white marker represents a 1/4 mile and they usually watch you for a mile before radioing down to a ground unit. I think 71 might sometimes be patrolled by the air also.

Adding to this, in Indy we have the Harley Davidson bike cops, but they are pretty easy to spot. Also, tons of Crown Vics, Impalas, I've come across a couple Stratuses, and even an LS1 Camaro (unmarked). Occassionally they will use helicopters to "patrol" the I-465 loop. They are also sporting the Tahoes/Suburbans in 2 wheel drive format, as far as I can tell. I did get a ticket north of Terre Haute when a Dodge Durango caught me. Could I have outrun him? Yeah. Am I that lucky? No.

Like people are saying, they could have almost any vehicle anymore. For this reason (and gas prices), I've decided to save my speeding for the drag strip. I can no longer afford to help pay their salaries.

I live in the Orlando area and I'm a Service Manager at a Dodge Dealer. Orange county has just about every dodge vehicle in their fleet as patrol cars; less Viper. They do have a few Chargers and one Magnum (Silver). It seriously looks like a SE 2.7L version but I can assure you it has a HEMI.
On 417 in the Oviedo Winter Park area the cops use a little plane also. This one is a Cessenna I suppose and it is visible only about 700 ft. Fortunatly I noticed it going to work one day with the t-tops off and slowed down. This tactic is usually used once every two or three weeks. There used to be a rumor of a silver 06ish GT stang running the same stretch of road. I can tell you that that rumor is true, he even tried to engage a race and I just pointed to his car and then to my head(like I know who you are) and then shaked my finger like no-no. He slammed on the brakes got right behind me and then pulled over to the shoulder. Bastard!!!!

Some of the county Mounties have Dodge Chargers, Durangos, and even Dakotas. There are rumors of some of the cops around Charleston are running Mustangs siezed from drug busts though.

Can we make this a sticky by state.
Here in Southern California...
-Most drive crown vics. specially chp's
- most city cops are going with expeditions, and explorers theres a new charger
- the color scheme is blk and white for all city cops.
-there's alot of chp's that drive white crown vic without the upper siren lights.(i got pulled over by one doing 120+mph)
-there's alocal hwy were alot guys race, I got siren-ed by a cop in a carvan that was green. i did a pass with a stang and they pulled next to us. he didnt pull us over because there was 20 other imports racing too.

In Georgia, around 400. They'll sit on on-ramps radaring your ass as you go by. They hide behind bridges, or at the bottom of hills. They LOVE to camp right where the speed limit changes from 65 to 55, or construction zones, because they'll ticket people even if they're in the process of slowing down.

Radar detectors aren't useful in most of GA, cops use laser guns. Look into something like the Laser Interceptor instead. That said, my V1 has still saved my ass more than once.

Oh, and on 285 around atlanta, there's an undercover white Buick Lucerne, got me racing a 'Stang GT once and let me go after complimenting my car.

As someone who recently moved out of Missouri let me clear some of this up.

1. St. Louis Co. runs Imps, Tahoes, Crown Vics, a couple of one ton Silverados (new) and full size chevy vans. The St. Louis Co dare car is/was a C5 convertible. A few motorcycles as well. They DO use helicopters and planes for clocking as well.

2. State troopers run Crown Vics in varying colors and MOST are unmarked. Plates my not give them away. They will run a plane in the air for clocking speed as well- I was tagged outside of Springfield by one.

3. Charlack, a tiny little piece of shit community near Lambert International Airport, has a Intrepid.

4. There is no set color or scheme for any cop car in Missouri.

5. Chargers are usually the V-6 variety. Even the 5.7s need 14 plus seconds to get through a quarter mile. If you're going 90 in a LS1 put your foot in it he can't catch you alone. That said, you get caught by a motorola and some of his homies thats on you.

6. Maryland Heights, Mo runs motorcycles on the highway offen.

7. St. Charles is also known to run a motorcycle or two.

8. Town & Country runs laser and was the first to run it in St. Louis Co. They are sneaky bastards.

9. In west St. Louis Co.(270 and 40 area) look out for the 94-96 Imp SS in that purplish color they will run you down in traffic to tag you if they need to.

10. If I run 5-9 mph over the limit on the highway I have never been stopped even if I pass along side a moving cop in traffic on a Mo highway. Just don't come off as Joe Hardass so he has a good reason to knock a chip off your shoulder. I.E stare him down, flick him off for f-ing up traffic with his mere presence on the road as everyone is usually afraid to pass him so on and so forth.

Hope this helps the spotters out there.

If you are ever driving through Palatine, IL and see a red (I believe) Dodge Viper, please do not attempt to race him. You may be tempted, but in the end you will be pulled over by the narc behind the wheel. Yes, Palatine, IL has an unmarked Viper in their motor pool as it was confiscated from some rich douche a while back.

They will sit on the on ramps with their door open with a radar gun and shoot uncoming traffic.

guess i have to watch out when i get back home. i know there are a few marked chargers between hood and htown dont remember what county but they are silver and its right by the split for 6 and 6B. most of the harris county cops are the older impalas, tahoes, old harleys. hpd they still rock the old caprices, burbans, a few ls1 maro's, harley bikes, and at least 2 choppers lol dont ask how i know.

You guys want my tip?

GET A TRUNKABLE POLICE SCANNER LIKE A UNIDEN BEARCAT BCT15. MAKE SURE IT IS TRUNKABLE.

Mine goes off whenever I come within a mile or two of ANY cop car. Very seldom does it not warn me. As long as their radio is ON it will go off.

My antenna goes through my old radio hole in my B4C LOL

Wahington State uses a bewildering variety of vehicles. Crown Vics, Imapalas both old and new, Chargers, a Magnum, Tahoes with tint, wheels that are slammed. I've seen a Volvo S-90, LS-1 Z-28, C-5 Vette and an ugly blue with peeling paint Astro van. They also use aircraft all along I-5. Their tactics change often but the Tahoes specialise in low speed trolling with back facing radar. The Motorcops, sit on the shoulder, either side with Lasar/Lidar. The basic Troopers like entrance ramps, crossovers and overpasses. Some hide in little spaces behind the trees and shoot ya going by. Just because ya saw them in a spot yesterday, don't mean they haven't completely changed strategies today.

theres a srt-10 d.a.r.e. viper car but never seen it pulling ppl over. a new sheriff charger car in my town in KY, but if i go across the bridge to Evansville in IN there has been up to 11 different mustang cars that have exhaust running up on everything trying to get you to race, and then they pull you over if you try to racem. i would make some excuse like wtf are you driving reckless for. think what a cop would do if you were runnin the speed limit in about 2nd gear and satrted stompin the throttle you would get pulled over for sure.

typical white and blue for sheriffs adn black and white for state troopers, but in beumont they have all kinds of different colored trucks and suv's, one cop has a damn silver SRT-10 viper truck, i almost shit when i saw this thing on the side of the road with someone pulled over, and there new trick around here on the interstae is they'll leave the trunk open so it looks like a dissabled car and so you can't see the markings on the back or the light bar and as soon as you go by they floor it slam the trunk down from the take off and pull you over. crafty fuckers

yea i used to race there all the time that prolly why they started monitoring it, theres ls a stretch on the tollroad where it goes up 10-15 feet then back down they like to hide in the dips of the road i know this cause i was doin like 140 and when i saw the light bar i slammed my brakes and he clocked me at 100, he didn't even have to get in his car i just stoped and pulled in front of his car the weird thing is he was on the left side of the road against the median not the right.

Here in Ontario, Canada, if you're caught going 50km over the speed limit (100 km) you lose your car for a week and $1,000 fine...ON THE SPOT. 50km over is considered "racing".

Remember to take it easy...

This new law has nabbed a lot of regular drivers but VERY FEW modified cars. :D

Connecticut

1. State UC Tinted Off-White Camaro LS1 (was pulled over by this car in 06')
2. State UC Tinted Marroon Camaro LT1
3. State UC Tinted Light Blue Charger. Usually Crusises on Route 8
4. State UC Tinted Maroon Dodge Stratus usually running on 84 between Waterbury and Southington.
5. State Troopers Chevy Tahoe Black all tinted.
6. State Troopers Ford Explorer grey and black all tinted.

Marked state troopers have all the same grey, green or light brown crown vics, there pretty easy to spot especially when there riding your ass. I have heard of a riced out tinted Civic in waterbury area stopping people but never witnessed this one.

The white camaro i was pulled over with was pretty sweet.

oh, virginia has the planes too. if you come across white lines going horizontal across the highway, slow down. They use those to time you from the first to the last line.
