oki, well i decided it was time to take a look at my filter and all and i could see a reason why i was getting poor gas mileage. first off, my Lid, i've noticed that the rubber seal around it is off and is streched, should i just go for a new lid or is there an easy way to fix it? and secondly my filter is a bit dirty, and me being new to cars and all, is there an easy way to clean it? or is it cleanable? or should i maybe go for a K&N cleanable filter? i have no idea what filter i have now. and then there's the MAF, the honey comb thing is pretty damn dirty, all sorts of stuff stuck to/in it, there's also a minor dent in it. How do i go about cleaning it with normal stuff i can find around the house? as in germany... it's hard to find Auto stores here for cleaner. last but not least, i need some sort of ram air or something to get air in easier, below the filter it's pretty solid and taking the plastic off, i see there's a second radiator there, (AC i take it) and i spend alot of my highway time around 120+ so i'm sure that would be a BIG help.

Just throw in a new paper filter; my K&N is sitting in my garage unused since I went back to paper. They make throttle body/MAF cleaner of course but as you said you can't get to the store easily. I wouldn't risk using household stuff but maybe there is something that's usable that I'm not aware of.

As stated above, do the free ram-air mod. You can find a how-to by searching.

you talking about the one with the metal rectangular pipe from that runs down to the bumper? Would it be more difficult with the ac radiator thing? or is there enough space... i'll do that with the filter... and i read on here it's ok to clean the the honey comb part with water and the part with the wires and stuff with alcohol but to be carefull, which i would think is ok as i use that to clean computer parts.

Do not clean the wires with alcohol! This could damage the sensor.

You will want to use a "non-residue electrical contact cleaner." I am 100% certain you will be able to find this in Germany. This is what we used in the US to clean our MAF sensors before special-purpose MAF cleaners became widely available in stores.

Alcohol is not a pure product and the additives will leave a residue on the wires, which will reduce the effectiveness of the sensor. That is why it is so important to find a non-residue cleaner for the actual sensor wires.

For the honeycomb, you can use anything. I used some dentistry tools to straighten out the bends and a toothbrush to clean out all of the bugs and dirt.

You might try to use weatherstripping adhesive to put the gasket back in place.

You will probably only be able to find it in a store that sells automotive supplies or supplies for industrial machines or industrial electronics.

well i'll ask my mechanic about where i can pick some up.

and it's either good mpg's in the right lane and go 55mph, or go in the left lane and let er' rip! i didnt buy this car for good gas! besides... i'm not the one that pays for the gas
