Default What ways can you tell if a car is in open or closed loop.

If you log fuel trims in closed loop youll see the percentage factors in short and longterms, in open it will be zero (like at WOT)

what other things can you look at to tell?

There is a generic PID for "Fuel system status", in EFILiveV5 it is called {SAE.J1979.FUEL SYS A/B}.
I should be avaialble in other scan tools with a name like: "Fuel system status".

This parameter indicates the fuel systems' current state, which will be one of:

Fuel systems do not necessarily refer to injector banks. Fuel systems are intended to represent completely different fuel systems that can independently enter and exit closed loop fuel. However, banks of injectors on a V-engine are generally not independent and do share the same closed-loop enablement criteria.
