From people who have done this conversion before it takes some messaging(sp) around the tranny tunnel. A good BFH should do the job nicely. If you goto cmz28.com and do a search for this conversion a guy name OrionSPL did this years ago and wrote a damn wright up with pics on it. Good luck man

Takes some "trimming" of the bellhousing as well... I think there;s a few unused tabs you need to shave off... and one tab you simply can't use (which make me suspect there's no way this conversion is SFI legal unless you modify the body to prevent this chopping).

Even so the BFH is a nessessity. As is some expensive electronics to make the PCM happy. I'm not sure what the current trick mod status is on this, but if I recall correctly the first 4L80E used a stand-alone computer tapped into the VSS signal while the LT1 PCM used a manual tranny program to avoid any tranny control issues. But its been years since I read that thread.

Might be a good mod for a Duramax swap though. :p

I am about to put mine in, NO HAMMER NEEDED from what I seen but you do have to cut the driverside tunal to plug into the Sensor on the 4L80E. I am about to do a write up on it. Here is a few pics of what is needed. Also notice on my tranny the ears of the tranny bellhousing have been cut for clearence reasons, should bolt in find.

Ordered a Midwest Fab 9 so the driveshaft will be here shortly.

I think I have seen people use the stock length driveshaft, but they modify something?????? I think people might be using the 6-speed driveshaft?? Not real sure.

Heres my other option, a turbo 350. And heres why. I really dont think this car is gonna run the 1/4 with a 4.11 gear, 28 inch tire on the spray. It sucks up gear QUICK on the 175 shot on the street. I am not to keen on cutting my wheel wells to fit a 30 inch tire on the rear.

So if I drop back to a 3.73 gear with the turbo 350 I dont think it will be that bad to street drive. I drive it a good bit on the street.

Anyone have any input here? As to rpm differences in overdrive with a 4.11 vs a turbo 350 with a 3.73 gear, same 28 inch tall tire?

With the 4L80E, 4.11s, 28" tire, it would run about 2250 at 65mph.

With the Turbo 350, 3.73 gears, and a 28" tire it would turn about 2900 at 65.

edit: If you are going with a non overdrive transmission just get a 400 with your power levels.

Now with the 60E at 70 mph it turns 2500 rpm with the lockup converter, 4.11 gear and 28 tall tire.

That sounds right. It will be about the same with the 4L80E

I do know the 4L60E has an overdrive ratio of a .70 and the 4L80E has one of an .75.

ummm the 6-speed and auto driveshafts are the same.
Guess I am wrong then, I thought the 6-speed driveshaft was a little longer??

I was under the impression it was .7

If it is .75 then you will turn roughly 2600 at 70mph.

There is a really good calculator out there let me see if I can find it.

Here is the gear ratios of the trannies
http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Tech...ear_ratios.asp

This one works, but there is one with an Excel spreadsheet that shows everything at every RPM level, pretty cool.

You can skip the trans controller if you use a manual valve body. That's my plan.

Very true, I'm lazy so I will let the computer shift for me, unless I am in the mood to use my paddle shifter

Most of the reason I plan on doing it is because mine has the 93 ECM.
