I used some paint that I got at the local parts store that was made for wheels. Don't know if there's any difference, but it worked pretty good and dried nice and hard. I would also use an adhesion promoter and primer if you're starting with a polished finish (remember to scuff it first).

Default Speaking from experience...

Having stripped and painted several sets of wheels, including steel and alloy, I recommend the Duplicolor products - both primer and hi-po wheel paint and clear coat. Don't try to go cheap (only a few dollars less) by using regular Krylon paint.

Since you plan on just selling the wheels, paint may be the way to go. If you plan on keeping them, I'd recommend going with powdercoat, especially if your car is a daily driver. The wheels I painted for my Jeep lasted two years - including snow and salt - before they started to peel.

Remember, painting is the easy part - prep, including stripping the old clearcoat, is the hard part.
