how will a 220/220 .553/.553 114 cam work on an 01 silverado v8, headers, intake, full exhaust, no cats, ported polished tb, free mods. will there be any issues with the lift possibly hitting a piston. just need some answers before i go through with this.

Doesn't seem like that's a very big cam, I wouldn't imagine you would have any P/V issues with it.

not very big for some standards, but in a 5.3 with a stock 192/190 455/465 115 cam in the truck, i was wondering how a 220/220 553/553 114 would workout.

First off, you dont even have a 5.3, its a 4.8 so the difference will be even greater. I say go for it!

I think a 220 duration cam is way too big for your intended application, a heavy truck with a 5.3l (or 4.8l) engine. Torque will suck under 3000 rpm even with headers. Now, if you're planning on a 3000+ stall, won't ever be towing, don't mind a rough idle, and put in a tranny cooler, then maybe you'll get by. In other words, if you're building a drag truck, then go for it. For street performance, I think you're way too big on the cam.

with a stall, say 3500ish, and longtubes i'm sure the bottom end torque will be fine, until i get a stall i can live with the loss of bottom end. how much should this cam hurt bottom end anyways? will it actually HURT bottom end, or just not help it at all.

It hurts low-end torque on a 5.7l, it will hurt worse on a smaller engine. (By low end I mean 2000 rpm and lower, where long tubes don't help.) You should check on the Truck forums - I'm sure you can find people who regret going with a cam that big.

Sheesh, Some people just don't understand a small truck doesn't weight THAt much more than a big car. I think you should swap the cam, pull your heads, put the putty in there, reinstall, so you can check the actual clearance. That way you'll know how much room is in there. That JoeJoe guys supposed to be runnin the big rocker arms, but I won't bring that up. I like the looks of that cam though. It's close to the old 350hp/327 cam.

seriously though, for a truck with a 3000+ converter more people need to be trying these cams. What would you fbody guys have said when cams just started going in if somebody put in a 230 duration cam? Point is we will never know until more people try it

When I put my truck on the dyno the hp was still climbing at 6,250 but, the tq fell off big after 6,100. The fact that a truck weights at least a 1,000 pounds more than a car might be a big factor. I shifted my truck at 6,100 at the track and ran a 8.7 in the 1/8th. Then I shifted my truck at 6,250 and ran a 8.8. Both of the runs are off the juice. The lack of torque at high rpms could be a problem with the extra weight. Of course this is just my opinion, I could be wrong. I hope this helps.

stupid, the difference in times you posted can be due to tire spin, track prep, and about a million other things.i've shifted mine at 20 different points and always have a constisantsy within .14+-
and if you ran those times at kennedale's drag strip i can almost assure you that it is track prep, but damn fine numbers N/A

i doubt if there will be any major weaknesses in the truck with this cam, think about it, as soon as you are full throttle from a stop you are at 2500-3500 almost instantly so it shouldn't hurt that much. and i'll get a stall in a month or so to help out a little. i think it'll be fine.
