Looks stellar....but GM head bolts and main cap bolts?! Where is the ARP hardware?

NICE :chug:
Personally, I am very nervous (afraid) of the TI valves. There have been more than a few problems. Other than that, it will rev to infinity. The MSD works great!

What is the issue with TI valves?
Haans249

I agree, what issues are there with the TI valves?
TI is great but does not heat cycle particularly well, thus it is best, not great, for intake as opposed to exhaust valves. The LS7 TI valves use lash caps on the TI intakes and there have been numerous "dropped valves" Even aftermarket TI valves (probably by the same forge) warn of a very limited life. Some as little as 500 miles!
I have cleaned up a few engines with dropped (pulled the valve head off) that were virtually destroyed.
Commonly used on race engines but changed often and with light springs.

Thanks...No need for ARP...the factory stuff is workin fine...no need to spend all the extra green.

Usually the good Ti valves have hardened tips so no lash caps are needed..
No problems with life on the Ti valves.
I thought the dropped valve LS7 issue was more spring related.:D

I agree about the spring relation to the dropped valves. Guys running way too much spring for a softer metal, not a good plan. I trust that GM wouldn't put failure prone valves into their flagship motor, especially since they endurance test them for 100,000 miles.
Katech has a great Spring/Retainer setup that is extremely light, totals 78 grams combined weight, tailored for the LS7 heads. Spring pressure 130 on the seat, 370 open and is good to 700 lift, single beehive spring. They use PSI Max Life springs, and are VERY durable.
Keep in mind 427cidLT5, that the GM Ti Valves DO need lash caps, so if you're running the GM ti valves, make sure you get those lash caps, otherwise major disaster will ensue!
DW is the authority on TI valves and they do most of the forging. They are fussy about the coatings to harden the tips or provide steel tips.
There was an acknowledgment of problems with the LS7 valve forgings about 18 months ago.
PSI 1511 springs are the best for lighter valves. On that I agree with Katech. They are in everything we build. The .700 is more than PSI rates them for however.
10-4 on the lash caps> absolutely

Haans....I have the Katech springs and retainers in my Z06...PSI max life etc...have about 15k miles on them...Had to change them out. Im running the caddy lifters and bumped up rev limit.. I was getting a P0300 code at high rpm that was driving me crazy---Changed out a lot of electrical parts...Finally traced it to weak valve springs---last thing I changed.:barf:
Depends on everybodys idea of durable for the PSIs??? I got 15k out of em...dropped in a new set and got rid of my high rpm miss.
Whats considered durable for mileage?
I was curious why they went with lash caps on the DW Ls7 valves? Cost maybe? I've ran the DW stuff in my SB2 with hardened tips...no need for the lash caps. :D
For this LS7...no PSI springs or DW valves.

15K miles on a high revving spring is absolutely durable. With most high-lift springs expect to see around 10K miles, and I'm talking about dual-spring setups, not bee-hive, which would see even less, and even less on top of that at 7k+ rpms.
The PSI's are rated at only .625" lift at a 1.8" setup on the seat. But, the katech retainers setup the springs at 1.85 on the seat, with a coil bind of 1.1", so, 50 thou within coil bind puts you at 700 lift. I'm running 650/670 lift int/exh, and am at 8K miles, I don't go past 6700 rpms, and I haven't had a problem thus far. But as a precautionary measure, i'm swapping the springs out for a new set, and am going to test the pressures to see how they're holding up to my setup.

Thanks guys!
Yeah this engine is going in a 1940 Ford....had quite a few different engine combos in this car over the years...
Yes I flowed the heads...dont have the data sheet in front of me..but the intake manifold picked up the cfm about 12-15 when it was bolted on...When I flowed the heads w/ out intake I didnt use clay or a port fixture. The heads went over 400 @.700 with intake manifold bolted on. Not a real big runner.
For N20...Id like to throw 3 hundo at it...going to do the NA thing for a while first.

You HAD to post that picture, didn't you?
Tonight I had my replacement C6 diff sitting on the bench and I was debating about swapping over the Z06 intermediate shafts or ordering some 300M's.
Dammit man, you better not have just jinxed me!

If your building a 7K RPM 427 screamer, that'll be running a 300 shot, why in the hell would you cheap out on main and head bolts?? That just makes no sense at all.
Forget about lifting heads, just think about main cap shifting.
Your building a bad ass setup, yet bolting it together with junk bolts..
I mean no disrespect, but based on your other cars, your not hurting for cash, nor are you lacking in the knowledge dept. The extra 400 bucks can mean the difference between pushing water and steam cleaning a piston, or a solid long lasting motor..

Jeff...appreciate the heads up! all ideas are appreciated!
I have sprayed more than 300 with stock bolts before on Ls1....maybe Im just lucky?
I really think the arp stuff is overkill...I hear you about cheap insurance on the bolts/studs. I really dont think its needed...just from my experience.:D On the all out race hardcore stuff I have, I use them. Besides the ARP stuff gets really expensive quick!!!
I went really cheap on some parts of the engine...and spent the green on heads, cam, and pistons...

OK guys got the car done midnight on Thursday for Pinks All Out..
didnt have time to get the N20 on the car but Im very happy with the all motor 419 CID LS7..in the all steel original frame '40 Coupe.
Installed a wideband A/f ratios were good with the lil Davinci carb...13.0 all the way through!
Didnt have too much time to dial it in but it went 10.4 @129 all motor...mile high air for the day was 8000+ feet DA..Need to get this little coupe at sea level..real curious to see what it can do in some lower elevation.
60 foot 1.41..Heres some pics from the shop and track this weekend!
Broke her in on Joe Gibbs oil...wanted to break it in fast..
VERY VERY happy with this low dollar engine...got to love LS power! There was a lot of cars there in the 10 sec range...the pinks guys picked a slower field...12.0:barf:
This things goona be an animal with some N20..:D
