Has anyone ever had someone to this terrible act of putting salt in the gas tank. I only drove it about 6 miles until he made me aware that he did something to my car in which i found this. Does anyone know the effects it will have? 2001 Camaro SS

Not sure about salt doing anything but sugar is bad bad bad......you may be ok with salt depending how much he put in there. Either way, I would prolly drop the tank and clean it out just to be safe......lift your rear carpet and see if anyone has replaced your fuel pump and cut an access hole, if they have you can use it to clean it out. So who done this? They were riding with you?

locking gas caps are dumb and so easy to still open, i personally dont mess with someone else's car but know a**holes that do. deffinately clean the tank or take it somewhere to get it cleaned(i think radiator shops can do it but not sure). if i was in you spot and knew that someone did something to my car and i knew who that someone was he would have a nice new hospital braclet and id be waiting for my assault court date.

i would assume this scenario would either lead to the "fist in face" or "foot in ass" effect.

seriously though hopefully have to drain the gas out? salt is pretty heavy, hopefully it settled to the bottom. may have to change some filters?

good luck

You might want to make a police report for damage to property...May give you some recourse against the guy without resorting to violence.

Report filed and insurance company involved. Now I need the restraining order to protect myself. I would never stoop to his level of immaturity and revenge tactics.

no revenge tactics just a good ol ass whoopin somewhere that no one is at and be sure some one else drives you up there so you can say my cars been at home all day, ask the neighbors lol. vandalism is disrespect and Im big on respect beat that ass take out the price in damages in hospital bills. restraining orders are for woman from rapists and abusers. LOL, trust me I would love to kick his ass but I am a woman that don't want beat back... If he stooped to this freaking level then god only knows what he would do next. I m sure he is hiding out somewhere and for his sake he should be. Was it Provoked? to answer that post. ... Telling him that it was over and he needed to move out.. No i wouldn't say it was provoked.

Any guy that messes up a Camaro on purpose is a tool bag.

I would swap the fuel filter, get the injectors flushed and remove the fuel pump to check what was in the tank.

A lot of this will just be PM work for later. You don't want the injectors in your car to be more than 50% clogged.

What douche, if someone did that to my car they would wind up with some foot in ass disease real quick.

I'd find a way to get rid of the salt before driving it again. Somehow salt and aluminum worry me for corrosion.

lol maybe he was jealous you had a nicer car then him, Sugar isnt as bad as salt i work at autozone and every few months people come in with the same problem, sugar disolves in gas salt doesnt, I would use an engine cleaner, and flush the engine, be sure to drop the tank and have it cleaned very well, i would reccommend not driving it at all are you positive he actually put it in the tank, also try putting seafome in the engine

Engine cleaner? He didn't put it in the oil. That engine cleaner crap is horrible for the engine, i would never use it. I know it cleans all the carbon buildup , but its not like it dissapears. It will end up sitting in the oil pan, so the oil pump pickup can grab it and clog it up. I would drop the tank and have it cleaned professionally. That is horrible that he did that to your car, but I dont think salt is nearly as bad as sugar. Good luck.

Agree guys salt doesn't dissolve in gas. The tank has been dropped and there was a fair amount of salt in the fill tube. Since it is all apart going to go ahead and put a 255lph fuel pump in it, a new fuel filter, flush the fuel line to the fuel rails, and possibly 42lb/hr injectors then the fuel system is set for a few more mods. :D

im sure the salt wont go past the strainer, change the fuel filter and open it up and see if u find salt in it! it also depends on how much salt went in there

Good for you sounds like the guy was bad news.

Im sure whoever you moved onto wanted to handle this himself. looks like you are keeping this under control. Even though their is side to me that would want to even the score and it would not stop at his car.

Good luck with the car. I would just have it professionaly taken care of.

Clorox in the gas tank is the killer...

Sugar, salt, mothballs, you name it... do NOTHING!

Mythbusters on TV tried everything to kill an old Cadillac engine.. only Clorox did anything.... it completely ruined it... and it only took few minutes...

Since your insurance is involved now... you probably won't have to do anything.... but if insurance doesn't take care of it.... you can always sue him for damages. Idiots never think about getting sued when they do crap like that.

Of course sueing might not help.... if he is judgement proof, or in other words.... broke!!!!!!

natem91,

Sorry to hear this happened. Sounds like he was trying to make napalm in your tank. Salt added to gasoline will cause a thickening of the petroleum fuel. Salt is one of the main ingredients for making home made napalm. So, I would agree it does not "dissolve" so much as it bonds with the petroleum causing it to thicken.

We had our Cobra sugared. Although it did not hurt the engine, it did ruin the fuel pump filter, clog the fuel filter, injectors and fuel rail, so it can be destructive to a degree. However, it is not the engine killer that some people think it is.

Good luck, keep your chin up and SHOW NO FEAR!

~Jenn~
