Default anyone here install a Comp Cam 216/220 114lsa?

Thinking about installing this cam into my 2000 SS with an A4. Along with a new springs, rods, LS6 intake and maybe 1.8 rockers.

Anyone here install this? Comments? Advice is more than welcome. Thanks.

I've had mine for about 1-1/2 years with 26918 springs. The valve train is definitely more noisy than stock. This cam is very mild, practically stock. It has a very small amount of lope. If I was to do it again, I would go a little larger like a TR-221 or TR-224.

I'm interested to hear about the 1.8 ratio rockers with this cam. Please post your results.

I had that in my car (A4) with stock tuning. It lopes enough to set misfire codes and keep my converter from locking up reliably. It will surge some at idle in an A4 car too. It will give you a lot of midrange torque and on the dyno, the hp did not fall off clear up to 6600 rpm. I used 01 LS6 springs with it. I just pulled it out and replaced it with a T/R 220 114. Looking at the 2 cams side by side, the T/R cam had noticeably faster ramps. Rather than buy 1.8 rockers, save the money and just get a cam with the same lift that they will give you with the 216/220.

I ran a 216.220 525.532 @ 114 for less than a year and it was awesome in my A4, I caught the bug though and replaced it today with something a little bigger. I put down approximately 354rwhp through a loose convertor with that cam. I used the springs that came with my Absolute speed heads, I believe '03 LS6.

Good luck on your choice....
Btw Im selling this cam if your interested, check the 4sale section of this site.

I have used this cam in four different cars this year (two of my own) and they all did a bit over 400rwhp with TEA heads and boltons, except my A4 C5 with 80,000 miles on it that did 390 through cats and a Z06 exhaust. It pulls nicely to 6500 but I shift around 63-6400 so the engine isnt winding up super high like the larger cams.

I always want to put a bigger internet cam in (only take a few hours and I have unlimited access to a dynojet and LS1edit), but I just leave this one for some reason. Easy on valve springs, stock pushrods, tiny lope at certain times, really nice in an A4 car..

Yes its old and has been overshadowed by the larger cams but its a good performer and excellent for a daily driver.. You will get misfire codes at idle on an A4 though.

I just put that cam in my car a few weeks ago. I used 02 ls6 springs, Had misfire code at start up and surging. Had it tuned and its alot better now just alittle surge for the initial start when cold. Has some lump to it , and is a strong torque maker, I dont have a LS6 intake on my car and it is sock headed, It dynoed at 342hp/389tq pulls all the way up to 6400. Its a decent cam for its size.

I have persevered with this cam - it now has a Mamo Fast 90mm, 1"7/8 long tubes, 25% UDP, Ported Heads at 10.7:1 and its about to run 11.0/122mph at a race weight of 3575lb. This is with SS4200 and 4.11s.

Any idea how this cam compares to Comp 212/218 114? Another mild cam that I'm interested in.

I had this cam as my first. I liked it but still wanted a little more, so I replaced it with the comp 224/230 114. I like this cam much better, It a large mild cam but still mild. It has very good street manners and pulls hard through the rmps. I would look into this cam you will be satisfied.

I ran a 216/220 523/530 114 back in 1999 and I swapped it a year later. It was too docile for me. The supporting mods weren't quite as nice in the 'old days'

I didn't have an A4 but I made 354rwhp with this cam, ported TB, MAF, and stock exhaust. I loved it. Ended up with 384 after a tune and SLP longtubes. However, this was installed back in the day and I broke a few of the old 941 springs all at once and made a mess of everything.

If you use this cam then degree it to 114ICL and it will perform light years better than at dot to dot.

the 216/220 was called the old man's cam some years back. I ran it for about 18 monthe before I went to the TR224. It was a good mild sleeper cam that made like 350+ with stock heads and ~ 390 with 5.3Lheads.
