Yesterday i had my choice of going to the Nationals or to McChord for the Air Expo. So i went to McChord. I have been going to air shows my whole life. Fighter jets are the only thing i love more than cars. Well for anyone who hasn't been to an air show before you should seriously think about going. I feel drag racing is just too boring in comparison. It will more than satisfy any speed junkies need. And im sure there are a few speed junkies on here. :D

Well to kinda give you a taste of what your missing here is a video for you guys to check out. Its an old one but a good one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XakCBap2muQ

When we were in Japan we used to go park in the Whiskey area (like 30 feet off the runway where they load live ordnance) and just watch the super hornets defy phsyics...airshows are the poop man.

Me personally would rather watch drag racing...

When you have lived near a Navy base most of your career, they get kinda boring...

They used to host a huge air show in Yakima every year. Every where in town had a good seat then.

I would rather go drag racing but that is just me ;)

I would love it! I cant get enough of them. I lived in southern cal til i was 9 and we were always seeing the jets fly by.

I was mainly talking about from a spectator side of things: watching drag racing as opposed to watching an air show. But actually racing is a different story. :D

loved the video , just one problem the video left out the two best jet fighters in U.S. history , the F-15 and F-16 -

i dont mind the slow navy jets , just wanted to see some eagles and falcons getting it done :engarde:

^^^ I agree. Neither one can hold a candle to the Raptor tho. The Falcon used to be my favorite until the Raptor came out. :D

Airshows are pretty cool. I like the sneak passes at SF Fleetweeks..... Check this out:

20-50ft off the deck just barely subsonic. I bet there's some boats they have to clean the poop off of after this.

Couldn't agree more. For that matter Naval aviators > Air Force jockeys

for air show purpose i agree the blue angles are awesome as are the t-birds

but when it comes to fighting for your life i look for the eagle to save my ass , it has the best kill ratio of any aircraft to date that has seen combat. it is now multirole capable with the E model just a great platform. the navy guys can land on a carrier but they dont fight as well , they are limited by the aircraft they fly.

We went yesterday & were able to park up close since my hsuband works on base & needed to go get some stuff from his section before we went in to the airshow. I did heard some complaints about entry in to the airshow, If you packed bags or chairs they had to be searched, then you had to go through guys waving metal detecting wands. but not bad. Its the protection of our troops that were there that they were worried about.

but other than that we were lucky to get so close & so early, since the line to get in as we were leaving was like a mile long lol. we left as the show was starting since it was getting really warm already. but we had fun. the kids got to see where their dad works at, & to hang out with him for a while he showed them stuff about the planes. & my son got to take pictrues with his new Camera since his birthday is tomorrow.

Just for the record (types of aircraft flown by each service aside, which serve different purposes by the way) Naval Aviators are more heavily trained and disciplined than their Air Force counterparts. This is not a matter of debate. Trust me.

Both are capable of performing the job at hand but if there is a pilot who's hands I have to put my life in you bet your ass his wings will be gold and not silver.

Air shows are cool, but nothing quite compares to watching a pair of 7,000hp cars blast off 100' away from you!!! Well, runniing a 10 sec 1/4 mile (or better) in your car is pretty FRIGGIN sweet too.

But being Brandon Bernstein this weekend would have been THE $HIT! Drive a AA/F dragster on Friday morning, then go judge a Hooters bikini contest, and then go take a ride in one of those F-16s & pull a 9g+ loop. What a life...

the only extra training they recieve is landing on a carrier. im not questioning the navy aviator , they are skilled at what they do, my comment was about they aircraft , the F-14 and F-18 are not as capable as the F-15 and F-16, take some time to do research on your aircraft before you making comments you obviously know little about. I spent 9 years in the AirForce and spent many a TDY with naval aviators and in training exercises the AF jocks with F-15s and F-16 kicked the crap out of the navy boys. Trust ME.

How did I know you were going to debate this.....

Actually, you see your comment was not about the aircraft while you did mention them. You referenced the Naval aviators lack of skills in a fight. To quote you directly.....

the navy guys can land on a carrier but they dont fight as well

Again..... aircraft aside......Naval aviators in general are more heavily trained and are more disciplined than their Air Force counterparts. Please read these words carefully. I am not slamming Air Force pilots. I am comparing them to Naval aviators.

As much as some of us would like everyone to be equal and the same with no winners or losers just like Sally's pee wee soccer league reality is different. Comparing the level of training between the two services Naval Aviatiors come out on top in general. Not comparing the types of planes they fly in a head to head that is a different debate. Talking strictly flying skillset.

BTW the F-14 is out of service in case you had not catch the news on it's retirement...

congrats you miss quoted me, i said they dont fight as well due to the aircraft not the training , you can believe what you want about training but those of us who have served in the military avaition know the truth. have a nice day.

Wow, inter-service rivalry anyone? I'm currently serving in this great big wonderful sandbox (in the AF), and I have the pleasure to have both AF and Navy pilots protecting me every day. I must say, I appreciate and trust them equally. They both do a fine job!!

My argument wasn't personal. I'm sorry you took it there. I'm not easily offended but to suggest that I take my freedom lightly really rubs me wrong. I've taken awhile to cool down and respond and this will be my final input.

Everyday I wake up and go about my business (while I admittedly don't put on a uniform) I am as aware as anyone and more aware than most IMO of the sacrifice that has been laid out in the past and continues to be laid out today for all of us. I live everyday conscious of the fact that today could be the day I receive a phone call I hope I will never receive. Yes I am perfectly aware of the sacrifices and hardships that you and others like you live with in order to provide all of us the freedom we have, but please do not suggest that I take it for granted ever.

No offense was intended just your typical forum banter.

First - I don't belong to this section - but I saw the post about not liking drag racing and figured the person must be on something.

There was an air show in my town this week-end also. The top attraction was the F-22 Raptor. The ground shook from this thing. But the ground also shakes when many drag vehicles run.

I guess you can spend you money why place you want.

Windows at my house were shaking today as the NHRA nationals were taking place a few miles away (over the hill in the valley)... That's got to count for something :judge:

Shout out to those that protect us unselfishly while I am racing, while I am working and while I am sleeping. It doesn't matter which branch, what equipment or what skillset -- as long as they come home safely is all that counts at the end of day.

My apologies to you for questioning your loyalty , I love this country and the sheer fact we can sit and discuss this is a tribute to all those who have and who will serve this country. Im sorry I took your reponse in a personal way but I am very biased towards our aircraft and our air crews. I have strapped in many Naval and AF pilots through the years. They deserve all the credit they get along with the ground crews who keep em flying.

Alright I lied this is my last post in this thread:

Just wanted to say I agree with you 100%. And like you I have a little bias going on. My little brother (9 years my junior) just passed his carrier quals last week and I'm flying down to Texas later today to see him have his wings pinned on. At the end of the day we are on the same team. That's what counts.

I hate to say it, but there's a couple nations out there with pilots that will give ours a run for their money in a 1 on 1 dogfight. Don't get over-confident...it usually proves fatal.

Personally, I'd love to see an annual international Top Gun competition.
