Default thermostat

does anyone make just the termostat for the ls1's or do you have the buy the hole assembly

I'm not sure what you mean but there are 2 kinds of thermostat's for LS1's. the older ones have the thermostat and housing as one piece. newer style ones have a separate housing and t-stat. in order to use the separate housing and t-stat setup on an old style 1 piece housing/t-state unit I believe you would have to buy the entire water pump.

This is true. I recently switched to a 160 for my LS1 which was a one piece, but when my mechanic tried to put it in it wouldn't fit and the one already in the water pump was a two piece. Later found out the water pump on my car had been replaced and was replaced with a LS2 water pump. So i had to take back the LS1 therm and get a LS2 therm which fit perfect. Long story short if you want a two piece therm then you need to buy a LS2 water pump.

k my waterpump is off of a 98 so i guess i need to buy the hole housing then

Yes. Just getting the thermostat out of the housing it a bitch and a half. Gotta pay the piper on this one.
