My opinion has always been that headers are only worth doing if you plan on modding the car past the point of bolt ons (Cam only or with upgraded heads, FI or nitrous) OR you really just want the sound.

I will add that I have found gains with a retune after just about every single change to my car. Of course, I have to give credit to the tuner (Jeff @ Mayhem) for spending the time and making it happen. I had to retune after going to a custom catted Y, lost major power but gained quite a bit of it back with a tune. On my last 99 LS1, I picked up 3X/28 with Jethot longtubes.

wow I never ever thought I would see someone say headers are overrated! To most people headers are the first mod made, after a lid.
OP, they all pretty much make around 20 rwhp from what I have seen. There are many factors that can effect that number though.

From what i have seen a 98-00 fbody will gain about 15-20 hp and a 01-02 will gain about 20-25hp."that what i have seen with my own eyes" by going with the ls6 cam.

i ran 11.72 at 115mph when i still had stock cats, manifolds, and y pipe going through a cutout...after my qtps the times dropped to 11.55 at 116mph...same DA conditions...so again around 15rwhp at max...unless of course your tune is off or you decide to run in better conditions (DA) and not record it...plus kooks are around $800...not the best mod considering you can get about 20-25 rwhp from a ram air setup for around $60...
