Found out i have 1 853 head and one 241 head!! How bad is this?
Well needless to say I'm pissed. I purchased the car awhile back and the motor was very clean. I just happened to be putting in a engine temp sensor when i noticed the left side of my car had a 853 head the passenger side has a 241 I was not informed of this. This car is my Daily driver. Are there any negative effects? Please let me know.

sounds like you need aftermarked heads now. Just go ahead and do a head and cam swap. They way I look at it is if something breaks thats just an excuse to replace it with something better.

I doubt that it matters. The heads are so similar, and i wouldn't worry about it.
Unless you have a wife and need an excuse to buy some AFRs (or Trick-flows) then..... 'those heads make the car unreliable and must be replaced immediately. Also, in order for the vehicle to be safe the heads should be occompanied by a cam'
On a more serious note, i would want my heads to match. Not that it really matters, but i would have a hard time sleeping at night. Its like driving to lunch with a burnt out headlight. It shouldn't matter, but for some reason it bugs the hell out of you.

I have one of each also, but my heads have been worked over to be equal. Both were ported/polished,new manley valves, springs retainers, etc. Maybe yours have been done also.853 drivers and 241 pass. We may just have very rare cars,LOL. One reason this could be is when the cars were assembled and the engines put togather. They might have been just in between using or changing heads from one year to the other. I would be interested to know when your car was built.

Thanks for the replys fellas. Yea I have been in the LS1 game since 98. I wasn't to worried about it but like some people stated it just bothers the hell out of me that they don't match. Also like some stated I would cam and head this car but its a daily driver. My Vette will get all the big mods. I may just search the classifieds or my just slap some ls6 heads on her.

The switch from 853 to 241 was made sometime in 2000. My buddy's 00 T/A was built 11/99 and has 853's. My Formula was built 6/00 and has 241's. I am curious as to the build date of the car, with the remote possibility that it could have come from the factory that way. You may have one super-rare car!
