That's one benefit of the air force, there's always a "track" nearby. My father was a U-2 pilot at Beale AFB, and they used LT1 and LS1 Z28's to chase the planes down the track and relay height to the pilots (they're not the easiest of planes to land, bicycle style landing gear). In essence this gave the U-2 pilots the ability to rip a Z28 up to 160+ at work whenever they wanted.
I think that's half of why I decided on a WS6 as my first real car (my money). I remembered back to when I was younger and would visit my dad at work. He would always take me for a few runs up and down the runway at 160+. I looked back at that and said "Hey dad what kind of car was it that you guys use to chase the planes down the runway? Did my research and found out about the mighty LS1, and haven't looked back since.
