Lightbulb yay or nay? Let me have it.

After realizing the cracked-paint on the front bumper from living in a busy city where people are constantly backing up into you while parking, i ran to my local Home Depot picked up some:
-Garage door seal
-3M tape and
-Plastic Epoxy adhesive from the paint department (optional, just in case the 3M doesn't stick too well)

[IMG][/IMG]

Initially i intended on making an under-body trim/skirt for pure decoration, but thought it would be nice to absorb some of the front-end shock i get from all the parking. So this is what i've got so far. It isn't much for appearances, but works pretty well. Tomorrow morning i'll throw some under the front end and snap some pictures. Two cents anyone?

Personally, i don't like how the sides end abruptly. It takes away from the dimensions. But like i said, It helps with the impact. tomorrow afternoon i'll try the 'skirt' idea and throw up some pictures. Honest opinions please.

Not too bad. Yeah I see how it ends abruptly.. But it doesn't stand out too much. I think it's perfect for your situation, i'd rather have something on the front of my car to protect my paint than for it not to be there and get my car smacked around. It doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, so I think it'll do the job.

i'd try trimming and smoothing the sides down so it flows with the body lines. but it is subtle and looks like it'll work

I was thinking of that, but being that it is cellular rubber, i'm afraid that smoothing it down passed it's surface material will deteriorate the rubber. And all i'll get is the tiny particles underneath. I'll try it on a small piece. It doesn't really bother me. What i'm more interested in is how the trim/skirt idea is going to turn out tomorrow morning. That is going to be strictly appearance. We'll seeee

Good idea for dark color cars, it wouldn't look good at all on white or silver IMO.

I say yay, not really a problem here, but when I was in D.C., EVERYONE's back and front bumpers were scuffed up from the tight meter parking and uncourteous drivers.

Hmm... so u think i should just have one piece all around the center of the bumper? Maybe that'll take care of the annoying abrupt end corners... It's raining here in NY pretty bad, so i'll do the skirt and try that idea when it clears up a bit.. thanks for all the opinions..

I've heard of splitters.. never seen one. Just saw your post on the splitters and some pictures.. they look HOT. I'll look more into it when i get home from work... thanks 6liter

not bad, after being in New York City about 4 weeks ago, I know exactly what you are talking about. I guess anything is better then hanging your floor mats over your bumper like most do! I say do what it takes to keep bastages off your car. They are ruthless up there!
