Default Anyone Got 4:10's w/A4?

Anyone running 4:10's in a A4? im thinking of putting 4:10's in my car. I have the yank PY3600E Converter with a built A4 and the stock rear with 3:73's right now(im spraying 150 shot), but my carrier/gears broke (they have been whining for about 15k miles and just now broke)and im upgrading to a Auburn Posi and thinking of 4:10's......just want to see if anyone has tried this

Yup, in my 9".

Gives 3rd longer legs and you will pick up mph NA but it won't do anything for you on nitrous.

i agree with PSJ above. 4.10s have been great to me on motor, but on nitrous, you will most likely run out of gear unless you run a huge 28" or bigger slick. depending on your shift point and trap speed, i would stick with 3.73 max.

No way would I go with 4.10s in the stock rear. The pinion is even smaller than what you had before so you might be going back into it soon.

Your RPMs are going to be pretty high across the line on nitrous too with 4.10s.

opps i forgot to explain that both PSJ and I have moser rears so the bigger gearing with smaller pinion dont bother our setups. a 4.10 gear in a stock rear is rediculusly small and WILL break easily, esp under the TQ load of a 150 shot! with the costs of breaking rears and cost of installs, just save up and bite the bullet for a built moser.

I run 4.30 gears in my car but I had to go to 30" slicks to stay in third. Since your cammed I think you could get away with it if you ran 28's and you don't mind reving it out a good bit.

I was just curious but what rear are you running Jeffrey. I too wanted to swap to 4.10's. Just wanted to know how many guys have actually tried it. I also have a 3600 verter, and my car is making most of the power right when I am crossing the traps.

Colonel and Pro Stock John,
I have Heads/cam, most bolt ons and 26 inch tires and a 4200 converter. I currently run 3.23 gears. What could I stand to gain in the 1/4 by going up to 3.42, 3.73 or maybe 4.10 gears?
I've heard a ton of mixed reviews about the gear changes in an A4. Wondering what you guys thought.
Thanks
Jordan

Jorday, I wouldn't expect more than about a tenth or so even going to 4.10s. That 4200 converter of yours is really going to make a gear change seem mild.

Yeah, 4.10's would be maybe worth a tenth, but your MPH would pick up... Probably between 2-3 more mph going from 3.23's. Car would work better in 3rd... Would 60ft harder to since your first gear will be like a 4.56.

Sounds like it's not really worth it ET wise. 2-3 mph I wouldn't mind though. I probably won't be able to do much better 60 ft because my ET Streets are spinning many revolutions off the line as it is. Thanks for the info guys.

It's only worth it when you are trying to eke out every bit of ET you can... like I guy I know who went 10.9's with H/C A4 and stock bottom end.

So all B.S. put aside. Is it worth it if I need to squeeze out as much as I can. Right now I am stuck at 11.50, and I want to pick up as much as i can.I know with the good weather coming my ET will drop a little. So I figure if I can gain another tenth or two before then, i would be that much closer to the 10's.

So far the best has been 118. My verter is a SS3600, and I called MTI to see if they recommended a bigger verter and they said no. Right now I am not spraying, but if I cannot get close to tens then I will spray. so far it seems my only option is dropping as much weight as possible.I also have stock suspension, but so far so good with that.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

This is from my first trip to the track, well my only trip to the track. Also on a 26-11.50/15 QTP.

60ft-1.65
cant remember 1/8-
11.59@118.6

Also about 93 Degrees outside and way humid.Looking at the 60ft, I believe the car is hooking pretty good, after all the driverside tire came up around 6 inches.

It's a Moser 12-bolt.

Slo, with a 1.50 60ft you would probably run in the 11.3's no problem, plus good air is coming.

Is your 1.65 the result of spinning or maybe not having a lot of converter? Looks like you could run more converter, if you want to deal with the looseness.
