Default Braided power steering line question

I just converted all of my power steering lines over to the high pressure braided line. To anyone that has done this....Does the ferrel go between the stainless braiding and the teflon inner tube? Just want to make sure I did this right.

Yep. Jam the nylon into the fitting, slide the ferrel up, and tighten the **** out of it.

You used a compression fitting on these lines? Do you realize that the high pressure side is upwards of 1500psi? Do you realize that power steering fluid is flammable when sprayed on hot exhaust?

That's how the Earls/Russell fittings are. The nylon tube slides onto a nipple, then the ferrel slides over that, then the fitting gets tightened. At least I think that's how it went. It's been a while since I did mine.

Supposed to be good for 2500psi

yes these are the earls fittings. I have one of the O ring fittings leaking at the steering rack. I can't figure out why. I"m gonna pull it apart tomorrow and see if maybe the oring broke.

Thanks for that info ... I've never used Earl's fittings, only Aeroquip.

Back from the dead.....

How the hell do you get these to start threading? I don't have a vice and cannot get these to start threading. I got the fitting in as far as it will go down and cannot get it to start threading. Are you supposed to remove some of the braided part? Thats the only thing I can think of.

I see that. I got the easy one done. you happen to have any pics of it routed?

Also do you have to seal the threads with anything, thread sealant, teflon tape?

I got 3 90's like the write up said, but in the pics it looks like a 45 on the rack return

I got the high pressure side all done, but I don't have my downpipe in to route the low pressure side. I got the straight one done, but I just have to get the new turbo and dp in so I can route this. So I guess Ill through some tape on the fittings.

Anyone know what you are supposed to seal the fittings with?

Fittings seal against themselves. That's the whole point of -AN fittings.

I asked because you still have to seal the an fittings with thread sealant on nitrous applications. And the power steering lines are at a higher pressure. Thanks for the info

You seal the npt side of the fitting on nitrous applications, not the an side.
