Default What radiator for 850whp (with TC78)?

What radiator should I use? Or maybe I can get away with stock one? I know cooling is vital for highly-stressed turbo engine, so will cheap aftermarket rad provide any benefits? And can stock rad and fans be used at all with front-mounted TC78? I think I won't have A/C any more, too.

A Ron Davis radiator would do well. Contact EPP too for some more advise, they do ALOT of FI builds and will know what is better for what your car will be used for.

You can use the stock radiator with that power level without any cooling issues. Stock fans also. It would be optional to go with another setup.

Stock radiator in the stock location here... Did need new fans though, but because of clearance issues, not cooling.

What kind of temps are u running at cruise, a/c on, after a run? Mine is running at 200-230 with a/c on cruising and about 195 just cruisin without a/c. No obstruction to radiator changed fluid and added water wetter and still these temps. All these measurements in 90-100 outside temps with aeroforce scangauge.

I have the stand up griffin with 2 10 inch pusher fans. Its a 3 inch thick 2 core, vs .75 inch thick 1 core stocker. The lt1 radiator is supposed to cool a little better for a cheap option.

I dont have ac, but on 90 degree day crusiing i am just under 190. If i beat on it 200-210, but comes back down right away.

I am not 850 hp, but i would imagine the stand up griffin would work well. Better then stock of coarse. Ps i have seen alot of people have stock @ 500 hp levels with stock rad, so i dont know how far i would go on it.

Hmm, weird, my temp gauge is only 6-7mm above 160F. Raises to the second line after 2 consecutive runs

I got a griffin but you need to cut the top of the radiator support to make it verticle. It's a good choice if you plan to put a turbo in the front. here are some pictures of it installed on my car.

Upgrade the cooling system. Don't cheap out, it's not worth it. If you've spent the time and dedication to go this far then do it right. Use a good coolant like Evans waterless coolant also. I recommend a Ron Davis Racing radiator.

You can use the OEM fan set-up. The engineering is very good there. The Ron Davis unit which I have, has a substantially higher fin count and it fits in the OEM location. Because it's well engineered, there's no need for hacking and cutting any of the OEM components. You get what you pay for in a radiator, so don't cheap out.

if you plan on using a bigger core like the griffin, PM me because i have one that im not going to use on one of my cars and i will sell it cheaper than what i paid for it through summit. Its the griffin radiator all the turbo guys use when they modify their radiator support etc. it measures 27.5"x15.5x3" or something very close to that. Also has the "chevy" radiator hose configuration which is required on our LS1 fbodies. --Back to the thread, ive used stock radiators and the griffin, both with god success. Most guys go with a different radiator/fans just because of clearance not neccessarily for cooling purchases sometimes.....Just my .02 hope this helps!

I don't have anything in the arena power wise of what this thread's about, but I thought I might help with some info on the cooling. Just trying to help.

This is a Ron Davis brand racing radiator.

The fit and finish of the radiator and how it fits in with the OEM components.

How close it moved things towards the engine.

Another angle that's inverted to show detail from the passenger side.
