Drag swap suggestions.... Of fellas, since my SS has developed a case of the old rod knock, I have started collecting parts and motors. I have acquired 2 complete LS1's and a Ls1 block, a TH400, 4L60e and T-56.
Overkill? Nah just REALLY REALLY good deals.
Anyways since i have a couple extra motors i was thinking i can attach one to my built TH400 and toss it in a car. Thing is what?
I need something that has a strong rearend, yet is lighter than a camaro. I was thinking 1977 Caprice 800lbs lighter, factory 8.5 10bolt rear
, but i'm still not completely sure.
So go ahead and shot fellas.......

There are alot of us now but a fox swap is good. I should be finishing mine up in a few weeks hopefully..6.0/TH400 swap..Should be in the range of 2500-2800lbs when complete..

For a light weight application I would suggest three cars that come to mind...
First car would be a first gen s-10, in stock form it has a 10 bolt but I have beaten the hell out of my ten bolts with auto's and don't think thats a major issue..... My 87 with a 355 sbc, t56 trans and a cut through with four Phoenix gold x max tens and a few alpine amps scaled 3020 pounds.... I am sure without the extra creature comfort we could have been in the 2800 pound range for sure.... add a ls to the mix and look out!
Next is the rx7, fd's are cool but cost alot so this leaves you with the fc and fb (
). All three cars are light and fun to drive (wear a mask in the fb) but the fc and fd had independent rears which do work but are not the most ideal for drag racing..... fb's if I remember correctly have a straight axle and are the lightest of the three.....
The third would be a mustang...... Swap parts are now readily available they already have a 8.8 rear that can take a beating and can scale around 2800

Is the 77 Caprice really that light? I had an 89 B-body, which is the same generation, and it came in well over 4,000 lbs. Granted, mine was a wagon, but are the sedans really that much lighter? Or did they just add a bunch of crap to it during the eighties that made it heavier?

^^^ Gbody Bu's are just sick lil cars,budy had two identical lite blue ones.One a 2 door the other a 4door,2door smackd the guardrail around the 330..so the go fast goodies go in the 4 door,and it actually went QUICKER!60's picked up from consistantly in the 1.71/1.72 range to 1.68's on the dot.
Also AMC Javelin/AMX's not the early 70's (71,72) as there just dog ugly,but 70 and below are rather good looking cars,engine placement/turbo mounts should be identical to most older mustangs/fox bodys.
Regal Beagals and cutlasses also have that good stock suspension we love, and the after market just keeps growing for them aswell.

Cloth seats, A/C disconnected, manual windows, manual locks, manual seats.
So it is lighter then some fully loaded F-bodies.

I have been considering a FC RX-7 they are supposed to weigh 2700lbs after the swap with a T-56. I will be using a TH400, so i don't if that will add or drop a lil weight.
