Default back in an ls1 but its a project need some help breaking 10.50 in the 1/4

I am looking for some good weight reduction tips. and also a very nice parts list to make the power I need. I have a set of drag radials kyb agx 8 way adjustable shocks lower control arms pan hard rod tq arm sub frame connectors and a short thow shifter. also I am porting out the throttle body and ordering headers and a set of cut outs soon. what else should I look into with a budget of $2500 to get my car into the 10.50 range? also I do have a nitrous kit to pull her harder if I dont end up being satisfied with 10's. also I will be doing my own work and building my own cage. the only needed creature comforts are ac stereo and heat. the power steering and anything else is plenty able to go and the ac will be removed if or when the compressor fries. I keep hearing alot about companies porting out the ls6 and 5.3 heads could I save the money and port them myself or is it best to just order from them? I know I must sound like an idiot but to hell with it in some areas I draw a blank in others I know my way around.

For 2,500 $$ you could get a nice head/cam pakage. What year is the ls1 your building?? If its a 98-00 you can do a ls6 intake manifold or a fast intake.

Fast is more money, but better sutted for your 10 second goal. TSP has gone 10.8's with their ms3, cam only and weight reduction. Is this full out drag car, as in extream weight reduction? If so, sacrifice drive-ability and run a huge cam like a texas giant, or do a custom grind. Port the stock heads for better flow, and keeping you in your budget range. If you decide to expand your budget, maybe get some TEA or AFR 225cc heads for much better flow, and top end. Skinneys up front, and a new K-member will help save weight.

it is a 2000 and honestly I am building it as a street car. but inspection isnt a problem as my best friend is an inspector. the 2500 is for motor mods only the rear end and tranny and cage are not included in the 2500.

Well with a 2000 car your going to need a LS6 intake like someone said earlier. Headers and exhaust, port the stock heads and get a decent cam high 230's. That should net you mid to low 11's in the 400-425 hp range. With the WR your planning on doing you might beable to dip a bit lower on the ET, that im not sure of. I dont see how you will crack 10.5's w/o N20 though on the budget you have. To get there i think you will need to be around the 500-550 hp range to the wheels.

ls6 intake = 300 bucks used
headers = 600 ish
exhaust = 200 ish ( not sure if your welding it )
porting heads = 500-800 i think
Cam/springs... = 600-900
Low end 2100 high end 2800. Thats right about where you budget is give or take some in the numbers.

Or, cam only with the ls6 intake, supporting mods, and spray 150 shot. Should get the job done.

used parts dont bother me at all honestly. I am honestly leaning towards headers with cut outs afterwards and finding a way to fab up the loudmouth 1 to ork with it because its already installed. I have pacesetters on my 95 and I iked them alot are the pacesetters worth a cuss for the ls1? or would I be better of with a different company? also those ebay stainless steel headers seem to be pretty nice but I am concered about them because cant find any information on them.

There is a sticky somewhere about weight, what to pull, and how much it all weighs. What have you removed thus far?

What about back seat, all sound deadening, painless wiring system, carbon fiber dash, light weight racing buckets, drag lights, remove AIR and EGR, bumber supports, and are all your suspension components chromoly, or steel?

And if you wanna save more weight, don't run a full catback. Run open headers down the track, just make sure you got your rear o2's cleared out. Save alot more weight by not having a y pipe or cat back.
