General Maintenance & Repairs - window motor problems fixed :)

i accidently erase a whole detail of my window motor installation that went wrong but thankfully that got fixed

Basicly i removed the wrong rivits, took me a good while getting the news screws to hold the window assemly correctly. once i did i got the motor in. had my dad and my brother hold the window up all the way installed the motor and all was good, now this is just a short description, but after what i had written in detail was accidently erased by me, im just summerizing everything. I got some pictures too. Any questions just let me know. You'll see the errors i did but thankfully i got her done. Definetly 3 man job mainly to hold the window aligned. I can' probably do the passenger window in 2 hours or less took me 16 hours with many errors to get the driver side done. Heres some pics.

not that great idea to install the window motor when the assembly is off the door, had the put the assembly on, then put the motor in. Make sure that the window is all the way up when installing the motor, i think that is important.

the spring fell off and i couldn't use no more, and next to the spring are extra parts that came with the new motor, had a few metal parts that i didn't use besides these two,

Make sure to put locktite on those bolts I had mine fall off and the loose bolts ate up the fiberglass panel, made the window sag alot.

This is why I hate SMC doors. You can do alot more with metal ones. If only they had a SMC outter skin and then metal frame...

I will put on locktite, im going to wait a week, shouldn't be too bad if i take out one at a time im sure the window wont move. I will definetly be paying attention to the loose bolts, im hoping that doesn't happen. Its a paint to put everything back together.

What did you do to fix you sagging window?

I bought some huge washers to grab more of the door panel and then bolted them back up and used locktite haven't had issues yet seals better then the factory.

The new window motor is great im surprised how much fast the open and close. Makes my passenger windows seems so slow. One thing is for sure i wont make the same mistake with the passenger window. And i'll make sure to have my instructions in hand.

Just remember the 4 rivits you see as soon after you take off the plastic wrapping are not the rivits you're going to remove.

The rivits you're going to remove can't be seen untill you makes holes into the fiberglass. Very important.

Get the AutoTrix kit from the WS6Store and save that passenger window.

I have to do mine but I will not drill holes into the door to expose the rivets for the motor so which ones have to come out?

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the entire regulator assembly with the motor attached to do it without drilling thru the door.

Do some searches, there are tons of threads about this topic.

As mentioned already. You'll have to remove the whole window assembly to avoid drilling into the door and its a pain.

In my second picture to the edit: to the right) you can see the 3 holes i made into the door so i can install the screws.

What's a good replacement motor? Where did you get yours? I'm see them on ebay, are those any good? I have to do my wife's car someday.

Most everybody here say autozone window motors cause they give replacment motors if theres fail. I don't know the brand i got but i got it from autozone.

Just make sure you get a remanufactured window motor from Autozone/Advance with a lifetime warrenty. That's what I did. I replaced both sides now.
