Default OK i lied!!! my bad

OK i am NOT going to build the TA... I already have a project that i've been playin with for 7 years and I've got to finish it!!

My 1966 C-10 is in bad need of a restoration. So I'm going to start getting my pennies together for the beast! Right now its got a 454/th400 w/ a rebuilt 12 bolt w/ posi and 3.08's

I'm going to get me a LSx to get some gas miliage out of it and still be able to pull a boat or something.

I'm thinkin a 6.0 / 4l80e w/ about a 2500 stall w/ 3.73's

The truck weighs about 4500+lbs (SBC/th350)

Opinions?

For what you want to do the 6.0 is a no brainer.

the 6.0 is deffinatly your best bet. The 4l80e would be awesome and give you overdrive, but if you didn't wanna spend the money you could use your th400 and just live without overdrive.

My truck went from a tbi 350 th400 to 6.0 4l80e with 4x4 and I went from 11 mpg to 15 mpg. my truck is like a brick with 38 inch tires. you should do much better! I love the set up.

I say keep the 3.08s and do the OD swap later.
That way you will have more $ for a good 6.0 L92 headed monster!

with the 454 and 3.08's and your only getting 4-6 mpg? you can get a lot better then that with what you have. what mods are on the motor and how do you drive it? I was able to get 15mpg out of a 454 in a dually with a four speed and 3:42's towing heavy it dropped below 10mpg but that was the only time.
