Suspension & Brakes - WS6 springs????

Are these a differnet part number or better performance wise over normal TA springs?

The springs on my 02 WS6 were certainly not the same springs that were in my 98 TA. I put the low mile springs and shocks from my 02 WS6 into the 98. The stock TA springs were thinner and taller.

I have been told the WS6 ones are thicker, also....[but have not seen regular t/a springs].

The only different springs are the 1LE springs(front 360 lbs.in. , rear 130-180 lbs.in.), the regular V8 springs 93-97 (front 310 lbs.in., rear 110 lbs.in.)and 98-02 is (front 292 lbs.in., rear 114 lbs.in.)

What shocks came with your WS6?

This is what's in the FAQ: The 1998-1999 and some 2000 WS6's got 1LE springs and other minor 1le parts, different decarbon shocks, ect. Nothing major, but it was more than the simple swaybar upgrades of the mid 2000-2002 cars got.

If you have this option you have the stiffer sptings in you 02:
Ram Air Performance and Handling Package - includes specific low restriction dual exhaust system, Ram Air induction system, functional hood scoops, 325 hp, 5.7L LS1 V8, P275/40ZR17 performance tires (maximum speed rating), 17" high-polished aluminum wheels, specific front and rear suspension with higher front and rear spring rates, unique shock valving, stiffer Panhard bushings and 3.23:1 rear axle ratio with automatic transmission; includes 3.42:1 rear axle with 6-speed manual transmission

Well I can tell you with all certainty that the stock springs in my 98 TA and the stock springs in my 02 WS6 are not the same. I dont care what it says on the FAQ or what ever...they were not the same. Your saying that they were only 2 different springs offered...standard and 1LE on 98-00 WS6. So by that logic the springs on my 98 and my 02 should be the same, but they are not.

The 98 TA springs are much thinner and uncompressed they were about 2in taller (the rears at least...I swapped the entire front assembly without taking it apart.) Both had orange Decarbon shocks...I didnt bother to check part numbers.

In fact the rear 98 TA springs had rubber issolators at the top and bottom were as the WS6 only had them at the top. When I put the 02 WS6 springs in the 98 I used both issolators and it made it sit way to high so I had to go back in and take out the lower issolators.

So possibly instead of a down graded spring in the 00-02 WS6s maybe the 00-02 TAs got the same springs as the WS6 cars???

All I know is my 96 formulaWS6 handles a hell of alot better than both my 97 and 00 formulas did. All of them had the same mods done and I added 1le swaybars to both those cars.

Sorry, same year fbody WS6 or TransAm had the same springs.
If I'm not mistaken the 01 and 02 cars got different springs from the 98-00 car.

Ok I will clear this up as I work at a Pontiac dealer and have access to the old ordering guides and the parts manuals in hard copy before it went all electronic.
YOU ARE WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!! a regular formula or trans am does not NOT have the same springs in 1998-1999 and 2000 model until Jan 10th build date.
So !!!!!! any WS6 or SS built after Jan 10th has the same springs as a base formula or TA or z28
All of the 98 -99 and those early build (till Jan 10th) use the same exact part # as the 1LE optional suspension package . EXACT SAME # now for the real kicker 96-97 WS6 part # was replaced with the 98-00 # and shows the same rates. again ws6 car having a different springs over the base cars. the older cars 93-95 have a lower rate spring.

If you want good factory springs you want 96-early 00 WS6 or SS springs or 1LE package springs if ordered/equipped on z-formula-TA.
These springs are all gone no longer available from GM stock. running a d-d locater I only come up with 2 complete sets from Vintage parts and they know what they got as there are straight sale at $500.00 per set

Where can I find my build date, is it on the car?
I have a 2000 WS6, my front suspension is all f*ed up.
I bought the car 3 years ago and the front passenger sits about 1" lower than driver. I'm think the car was in an accident and they put the wrong spring and thats why it sits lower.
So, I bought 2 used springs and strust about 6 months ago, and put them in the shed. Just pulled them out, blew the dust and now looking at them, 1 spring looks a little thinner than the other and isn't as compressed, WTF? How do I know what I bought?
I wrote down ####'s off the yellow tag, called GM, and they said they had no record of this part ###
