Default I need a little help with the factory sub setup...

Car is a 2002 Z28, stereo is all factory stuff. My friend gave me a factory sub enclosure that goes in the cubbyhole on the drivers side rear (where alot of guys put the Subthump boxes) and it has a 6.5" Bose sub in it. The box is plastic and fits pretty good. What I wanna do is put in a better sub and throw an amp on it with built in cross over. My questions:

Has anyone ever used this box with a good sub, and how well did it work?

Can I use the speaker wires going to the drivers side rear 4" speaker for the amp input for the sub?

For the amp, can I use the power wire for the (now removed) factory 10 disc changer to power the signal wire to turn the amp on? Or do I have to run a wire all the way to the head unit?

I'm open to any other advice for this project as well.

Thanks!
