Thumbs down Opinions on the blocking of certain websites

Just wanted to see your opinions on the Navy blocking certain websites..i.e. email services, myspace, you tube, and the one that suck for this website PHOTOBUCKET. I could understand a few of the sites, but it is what it is...I guess.

Yeah, it does suck, but can you imagine how ungodly slow it would be if everyone was able to access myspace, facebook, youtube etc.. ?

Crane, Indiana eh? You should tell Adam Crim and Cameron and the rest of the guys with the ESE that it sucks and stop bringing it to the Fleet

I just let my last ship to goto recruiting duty, and when I was there, Photobucket worked..but it was realllly slow for some reason. I would have to refresh the page multiple times to get it to work. Myspace and other websites work on some ships/shore commands too But theyre not supposed to..

It doesn't really bother me. I just learn to deal with it. Those sites are blocked because it helps keep malicious logic and viruses out of a DoD network. People spend too much time on those sites too. Alot of companies and work centers throughout the world also have internet restrictions due to these reasons. The DoD would be completely ignorant and irresposible if they did not restrict web access on certain internet sites.

If you REMFs did something besides sit on the computer all day, then it wouldn't be an issue.
Just kidding guys...Over seas we would just use a proxy server, but you can't even use them in the states from what I have seen.

The biggest pain is the photobucket block.

Sites are blocked for a reason. You dont own the machines and have no right to use them for personal use and pleasure. The computers are designed for work use so blocking non-work related sites is 100% fair, although it does suck.

What about people who are stationed on ships and live there?

Would be be content if you lived in your office building, but only had access to work related websites?

You joined the navy and knew you would be on a ship at some point and probably did not expect internet access when you signed your paperwork. The military is required to provide you a place to sleep, meals, and a paycheck. All the extra amenities are not always included.

Sucks but thats how it is.

I would be content if thats what I volunteered for.

I remeber back in the day (well kinda) when all you had in the "feild" was a magazine and maybe a walkman and your buddys to BS with. Now days everybody has a laptop,Ipod and a cell phone with them at all times. What happened to a good ole letter to write home? HA!
