Default Anyone ever wash a car cover? Any tips/precautions?

I've had my custom fit Z06 car cover since '03. I can't remember which brand it is, but it's a windscreen type material and made for indoor-outdoor use. Since buying my house in 2004 and having a garage I haven't used it.

Now that I've freshly painted my car and it's going to be a weekend toy I want to start using it again to keep the car safe and make the wax last longer.

I've got 4 big circles where the tires are and it's a little dirty. I researched this once before and I remember there being precautions as to how to wash it and what to use so as to not damage the threads etc.

Any tips/precautions?

Thanks,
Brian

I've washed mine before. Just use very little detergent and either no heat or low heat when drying.

Read the directions... Some REQUIRE you to use heat in order to recondition the weather proof finish many outdoor covers have...

Avoid, if at all possible, using a washer with an agitator, like many top loaders have... Use one without an agitator or a large side loading washer... I personally just go to a reputable laundry center.

^ Thanks... mine has no intstructions. I guess I'll take it to a laundry place with a side loader and dry it on uber-low heat, or let it air dry. I seem to remember being told that the heat can make the fibers shrink.

That said, I'm not trying to use it as a weather-proof outdoor cover anymore.

surprisingly no, after all the shots she took, I thought she was going to.

I think I still have the directions on how to wash the SLP and California Car Covers covers, I'll look and let you know what it says.
