What Size Shot needed.....
I have 2001 LS1 72000K miles, stock bottom end, PRC stage 2.5 and MS3 cam, 1.75" dragster headers and no accessories on a 230" dragster with glide and I'm considering nitrous but I don't have a clue as to how much this combo can safely handle without trouble.
Right now it runs 8.90's at 148 in 8000' DA and I would like to be in the mid 8's without ever worrying about blowing the engine. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lee

I dont have the exact weight yet, I'm waiting for the scales but I've taken a guess of 1570 pounds. At sea level this would be running very low 8's but at our crappy air we have to deal with what we've got and this is why I would like to add nitrous. BTW, it ran 8.60's when our DA was 6200'
So, 150 should be a safe and reliable amount? What about that amount and spinning it to 6500 RPM?

I'm don't want to say either way since different setup act differently but in my experience it has been safe and reliable. I ran a TNT "150 shot"(put 176hp to the wheels) in my 2000 SS spraying thru the shifts & shifting at 6,500 without any problems. I only hit 10.8's with it so im jealous of your combo

to answer your question though, with the right tune and a good fuel pump you can run a 150 shot pretty safely. i believe that cam should be making good power up to that rpm, so ya i would shift around 6500-6600

Thanks everyone.
No 8.50 index, we just want it deep in the 8's "just because" during the terrible air of the summer months. We were almost there in the good air in spring.
I guess after thinking about it, you guys at sea level are making a true 550HP with my combo yet I'm only making a true 430HP here so a 150 shot would only put me 30HP over the sea level guys.....
