Default Reluctor Ring = Crankshaft Sensor?

I am building an LT-1 from a forged 355 shortblock. I am now collecting the various items that were not included. I need the sensor that triggers the opti. My book (Rebuilding LT1/LT4 by Mike Mavrigian) calls it a reluctor ring. I went to GMpartsdirect and called the dealer, they both showed a crankshaft sensor. Is this the same thing? It sounds like it to me, but this is my first time inside an LT-1.
Thanks in advance.

The sensor reads off a reluctor ring. The sensor is a magnet (more to it) and the ring, with it's gaps, cause the magnet to attract to the teeth when they pass by the sensor.

Now, keep in mind, there are 2 pieces to this, the reluctor ring and the sensor. So if you go and buy the sensor, you won't get the ring with it.

Are you building a GEN II from a GEN I block? I don't quite remember, but I think there are some complications with doing that, but they can be overcome.

EDIT: You can see it in this picture, but obviously since we're looking for a P# it doesn't give it -_- It only has 4 'teeth' instead of 32ish like some.

No, it's a Gen II block, I was told out of a 95. I have a timing cover with the CPS sensor in it, so I am O.K. there. But when I picked up the small block, all I got was the block with the rotating assembly, cam & timing gear installed. I did not know enough about LT-1s to ask for the ring.
I had a lot of the other parts already, such as a turbo cam, heads, optispark, intake & tb, etc. Now I am going through and trying to figure out what I am missing and acquiring those pieces.
It appears that I am looking for the CPS reluctor, as it is named in the diagram. Neither the dealer nor gmpartsdirect listed the reluctor. Any clues as to where I might find this critter?

Junk yard, F, Y and B bodies all should have it over 1995. Or get it from the guy you got the short block from?

I've got a p.m. into him. Looks like I may be making a pull-a-part trip soon.
Is it press fit like some threads suggest, or is it just a slip fit like the diagrams suggest? I have nothing to compare it to, except the diagrams.

its a cps reluctor wheel, i had to order one from gm cuz i cracked mine on accident, so i kno forsure they carry it, its a wheel that sits on the end of the crank, which the hub of the harmonic balancer presses against it.

I'm not 100% sure but it sounds to me like you have a 96 or 97 lt1. I'm lookin in the parts catalog at work and for a 95 and the reluctor wheel is not listed...however it is for 96-up. Dont know if this helps but it cant hurt. The part# i came up with is 10190917.

Thanks, I'll check on it. You are correct, they were only on the 96-97 OBDII models. Perhaps that is why the short block did not come with it, I seem to remember him telling me it was in a 95. Doh!
