ok I bought an ls2 chain and ls6 ported oil pump a few weeks ago from somonone on here. Well last night I wentto go compare them and they look the same. The timing chain is the same size and the oil pump has the same stamped numbers on it. Am I wrong or did he screw me over?

i dunno the answer to your question but i can answer this one....is there a noticeable size difference from the ls1 and ls2 chain? YES. they look the same but the thickness difference is very noticeable.

the top is the LS1 chain and the bottom is the LS2. You can see how much thicker the LS2 is..

When I did a cam swap I ordered a ported and shimmed OP from TSP and it had the same PN# as the one I took off. I think towards the later years, GM used LS6 OPs. The one from TSP sure did flow a lot better tho.

Like SOCMGUY said, it's no surprise the PN is the same. GM did that a lot. As for the chain, yes, there is a noticeable difference.

maybe what im confused about is the length because they are the same length but every picture i see has the ls2 about half an inch shorter side by ide like the pic above. What im asking is are they the same length or not?

The length can not change. The cam and crank are fixed where they are obviously and you cant change the size of the sprockets because cam to crank ratio is 2:1 and it has to stay that way.

Basicly that was a high level way of saying that they will be the same length. LOL

arent the oil pumps exactly the same, except the ls6 went through a few extra steps and was ported out in the process?

The Ls1 & LS2 chains are the same size in length, but the LS2 is HD chain ,the cam sprockets are the same diameter, but are different in there own way, The LS2 cam sensor reads off the LS2 cam sprocket . The LS2 cam sprocket will work on a LS1 engine but the LS1 cam sprocket will not work on a LS2 engine , But the Chains themselves will enter change with each other.

Yeah, but if it is ported you just increased volume so pressure goes down. I know this because every single car I have installed it on the pressure has gone down.

The pic above is just to show the difference in link thicknesses, it just so happens the two chains aren't perfectly aligned with each other vertically so it gives you the impression that the top chain is longer than the bottom one. Just make sure the LS2 chain you purchased has thicker links than your current chain, and you're good.

They port them and debur the edges, then shim the spring inside to give you more pressure. i noticed 10-15 more psi after installing mine.

i don't know if i should ever buy an ls6 oil pump then if you gain 10-15 psi. right now my car runs at about 60 psi just idling. does that seem a little high?

Is that psi when the engine is hot or cold ? and what weight oil are you using.

when warmed up. but when i get on it it goes up to like 70. it makes me nervous sometimes. and i am using royal purple 5w30 with a k&n filter.
