OK, I have a stupid question.

What side of the rod goes against the crank arm, and what side goes against the neighbor rod?

One side of the big end has an inside chamfer, the other side is flat. Both flat and chamfered sides have a rough finish, the stock rods had a flat machined surface on both sides.

The flat parts face each other and the chamfers face out (towards the crank).

Thanks! That's the way I have it, but just as I was installing I thought that was wrong.

It seems weird to have the chamfered side to the crank, when there's not always crank next to the rod. The crank arm tapers to the wrist pin and leaves no material to support the side of the big end.

Make sure you pay attention to the rod bearings also. There is an upper and a lower, and they have a slight chamfer as well that matches the machining on the rods.

Hey Jason, got pics of that?? I know the stock LS1 rods all face the same direction in the block.

common sense will answer most questions you may have.Chamfers on bearings and rod big ends are there to insure clearance for crank journal radius.Makes sense, there's your answer.Be sure to check rod side clearance with each pair torqued in place. It helps to torque rod bolts with feeler gauge between caps to help set caps alignment while torquing. A good rule of thumb would be .020" min. clearance.

Carl, yes, the stock LS1 rods all face in the same direction.

I'll see if I have any pics when I get home of my forged 346ci buildup and the last one I did with stock pistons/rods.

Damn... Now I think I know why my oil pressure sucks and acts like a loose bearing I put the Eagle rods in with the same orientation (sp?) as the stock rods. The stock rods have the offsets facing in one direction, so I did the same for the Eagles

Checked the bearings, Clevite standard don't have a chamfer.
