I'm 55 and have been a member of this board for almost 7 years. In June I found out that I had prostate cancer. It was total freakout time for me.:bang:
Last Wednesday I underwent the titled procedure. While pathology results are not in yet it appears that the cancer was encapsulated and totally removed. This was an exceedingly traumatic event for me. But, it didn't have to be that way. Every thought I had exaggerated the issue.
The reason I write this is that I would like to know if anybody needs help, has questions or anything else. I'm will to put together a diary of events if folks would benefit. I think I could ease the minds of those guys going through this disease. For me the greatest fight was anxiety. That was hard to deal with. In any case please voice your opinions.
One side benefit, with the prostate gone. I think I can go about .000005 faster due to weight reduction.:D
Thanks guys
Damian

Congrats on getting through your surgery.
I had 3 Lapro style surgeries in 2006 alone. Gallbladder removal, Appendix removal, and scar tissue removal. I'm still not done, gotta go back for round 4 to get the rest of the scar tissue. I'll say a I know a thing or two about this type or surgery lol (not really funny)

I did the gall bladder appendix removal in 1979. I have a 16 inch scar from that surgery. The latest surgery was a piece of cake compare to the old medieval procedures. Todays stuff is spectaular. The robot used was the new Da Vicini machine. I believe that the doc operates the machine with joysticks, think video game!!!!!!!!!!

Yea my procedures were pieces of cake. I walked out of the hospital same day. All my surgeries were on a Friday, and I walked back into work on Monday. Main thing is keeping the stitches dry for a few days while taking showers.
That robot deal sounds pretty trick. Although it'd suck if the robot decided to go apeshit one day :eek2:

Yeah, I'm a data center manager and over the years I've pissed off quite a few programmers. I was hoping none of those folks were programming my robot.

Remember kids, regular masturbation can help reduce the chance of prostate cancer by up to 1/3.
I wish I was making that up... going to dig up that link for you guys.
To the OP, good luck, hopefully that was all of it and you can live a long healthy life!
EDIT: saying basically the same thing

I got that 1/3 percentage from a link I can't seem to find right now :(

had Lapracsopic surgery on Friday June 13th. They removed my Appendix, my Urachus and scrapped off some scarred tissue on my intestines. Stayed in the Hospital for one night and went home on Saturday. I got 4 small incision. the worse pain that I got was from the leftover CO2 that somehow was hurting my shoulder (go figure) and it hurt like hell to urinate for two reasons. One is that who ever Catheterized me didn't know what they were doing, and second, was that since I was missing my Urachus muscle, my bladder was hurting.
Got 4 weeks off from work because of weight lifting restrictions, but came back to work a week early. It got too boring.
Oh PS;
Damian, Thanks for the advice on water proof bandages.

I had the shoulder pain deal back in 1979. It hurt almost as much as that surgery. An air pocket managed to get up in there. It's common, but not joyful. The air works its way out in about 24 hours. Luckily I did not experience that pleasure this time.

They forgot to publish the bit where they said their test patients were mostly from England and New Zealand ..... I just though I would clear that up for you guys.
On a more serious note my best mate died a few months ago due to Prostate Cancer and his refusing any early medical intervention.
cheers

My dad has prostate cancer though he's elected to take medication to keep the cancer from growing. If they see growth he will do chemo.
So I figure my chances for getting it too went way up, so I'll be curious to how it goes for you. You had the entire prostate removed right? A reporter on MSNBC (think that's the one) has a blog about it, he had it removed. He had to deal with some incontinence in the beginning.

John,
I live in Oak Lawn Illinois and use Speed Inc. for my car. I'm sure we're not far from each other. I did have the prostate removed last Wednesday. I did the Da Vinci robotic system. The surgeon I used had over 1,000 uses of the device so I felt confident. Send me a PM and we can exchange phone numbers or meet. My experience has been quite good. I've got 31 more days to heal as I STILL plan to leave on a 36 hole a day week long golf trip. :D

My dad had it too, so I too figure my chances are higher (to prevent it, I try to make sure to get all the sex I can out of my wife :naughty: :hump: ). He had his removed a couple years ago. His PSA went back up a bit later, so he underwent some radiation treatments (said he felt like a kick in the nuts every day for about a month). Since then, he's been doing OK. He had his done pretty much immediately after he found out about it. He had a large incision with staples, so I doubt it was a robotic surgery. He recovered from the surgery fairly quickly though.
Good luck!
