I'm pretty sure you can use old gauges.
I'm using stock gauges on my 86, just used the stock senders, replaced the factory ones that came with my 6.0.
You will probably have to use some adapters like I did. Street and performance sell one for the water temp, and I think I bought a set of adapters on egay for the oil pressure on back of intake.
Working fine for me.

You can use a Cable-X for the speedometer, they're a little pricey but work very well. I've had one on my car for over 100,000 miles, so durability dosen't seem to be a problem. Just my $0.02.

1) Fuel level shouldn't matter, leave your stock stuff intact.

2) Oil pressure shouldn't matter, reuse stock gauge AND stock sender.

3) Water temp shouldn't matter reuse stock gauge AND stock sensor as well.

4) I saw on a website the other day, new tail housings for a 4L60E or any electric transmission to reuse your stock cable....I don't know which would be cheaper. The new tailhousing kits were about $375 I think.

What are all the gauges you have?

I was told you don't need the LS1 oil pressure sensor, so put your stock one in there. Fuel gauge would be the same, leave it. Volt meter, just hook it up like stock, water just use the stock sender, and put it in the passenger head. Autometer has an adapter for the metric thread.

The only ones I can see a problem with would be tach and speedo. By problem, I mean not just plug in. Was the old tach a cable tach?

Here is the tailhousing. A bit more than I thought.

I did this on the 68 SWB I built for a buddy of mine, but had to put a resistor in the sender line to make the guage read strait up for normal temp. On the 68 strait up is about 180 degrees, but the 5.3 liked to run about 200 so the guage always looked like it was running hot. There are no numbers on the guage, just a C and H. I don't recall what size resistor I used, but I got it at Radio Shack.

i just finished a 72 Blazer 4x4 with a ls1/lq4 4L60E trans with the Dakota Digital setup. Car is total reebuild. It was a lt1 350 with Oil, Water, Temp, Tac, Speed, volt, and clock..
Spedometer ; i use double reader. one for the ecu and one for the Dakota cluster. This one is awaible in analoge. for two or four wheel drive
Temp, u must use two. one for the ecu and one for the cluster. u can buy a adapter that u can fill in the "out" Coolant hose from Summit, and put in the temp sens.
Tac; u conect it to the ground wire on the coil rails. Or you can use the tac out on the ecu. You may need to reeprogram the ecu for corecting the puls. I did that.
Oil press must stay in engine. do not take this out, ecu use it. Use double. buy a remote filter system from Summit, put in the original sens in the adapter and your finished.
