$150 .040 over shortblock. Should I?

$150 .040 over shortblock. Should I? I found an ad in the local paper a guy is selling an LT1 shortblock for $150. It's from a 94 Caprice and said it was a Jasper rebuild with only about 20k on it so far. It has been bored .040 over, with new piston rings, rod bearings, main bearings and head gaskets.
He is selling it as a shortblock and not entire motor because it includes heads, but he said the heads were cut to use bigger springs and stock springs could not be used. He said some work to the heads has to be done for the springs to seat. Intake manifold, and distributor are not included since he was going to a single plane and a different distributor. He is only about 20 minutes from me. I see this as being a great advantage for me to build the motor with ported heads, manifold, and cam while the motor is sitting on an engine stand.
What would .040 make in size as far as CID? Should I jump on this deal? He said he is just getting out of the hobby, the reason he is selling it.

Depends on the stroke of the crank...with a 3.875 crank and 5.8 rod it would be 396'ish. Need the rod and stroke length. I could use that block if it was a 4 bolt!

jasper is a pretty good rebuilder,just remember that engine is NOT rebuilt for our use unless specified.....not saying you cannot use it that way!
.040 is not that bad,did they reman.with hyperutectic pistons or just cast replacement?
is the rebuild still under warranty?
its worth the 150.00
if it was me i would instal new bearings,oil pump and timing chain.......

96lt1m6, what do you mean not rebuilt for our use? Throw a good cam in and port the heads and its good, right?
Not sure about warranty, he is going to send me some pics tonight.

Another question. If i decided to build the bottom end to hold some nitrous (175 shot) what all would be recommended? I'm not too familiar with building bottom ends.

I know that 150 bucks is about the same price that i can get a block only for around here, so i would buy it. If your car has a good motor in it that will last a while just use this new block to build a stroker. This way you wont have any down time on your car and will be able to take your time on the build and do it right.

I know that 150 bucks is about the same price that i can get a block only for around here, so i would buy it. Went and looked at it today, got some pics. Overall I think it will be a good purchase. Pistons, rods, new rod bearings, main bearings (all bearings look great), crankshaft, heads, head gaskets, timing cover all included.
Part of the heads were cut out to use bigger springs, as you can see in the pictures. Would it be wise to reuse these heads or just port my current heads? I believe these are iron heads from a caprice right? Which will flow better?
Is there anything on this that you guys see as a FLAG or caution. If so let me know. Thanks

Whats a somewhat non-expensive forged piston and rod to go with? I think what I'll do is just get some new rods and pistons to handle spray, keep the stock crank and then build the top end on it with a cam and heads.
