Serpentine belt comes off at dragstrip!
Has anyone else had this problem? The belt has come off twice now. The first occurance was with the original facotory belt while I was tuning the car two months ago (I went too long with that belt, I figured; 8 to 9 years is a long time).
Therefore, I purchased a new serpentine belt; a new one should fix the issue. However, the new one came off tonight at Milan dragstrip. How do I prevent this from happening again? They both came off at high RPM, above 6,000RPM.

never heard of a solis tensioner. I assume that I can place as much tension in the belt as I can pull; is that right? And who carries this item?
Thank you for the response.

katech sells one i think, just check some of the sponsors websites. shouldnt be hard to come up with.
and yes you can get the belt as tight as you can pull, but i wouldnt get it too tight or it might wear out the bearings on your accessories (ps, alternator). you will be able to tell when it's tight enough.

Yes, I made only one run in my '99 red SS. I was told that I launched the belt just after leaving the start line; the car was already over-heating at the end of the quarter mile.
I will see if I can move the tensioner pulley by hand. If I can, I figure that it is weak, and I'll buy a new one from GM. But, I still like the idea of a solid pulley that I adjust the tension myself.

I had the same problems. Katech manual tensioner did the job. You can't just tighten it as much as you want though, you have to use a torque wrench and set it to 25ft/lbs. when you are putting the belt on. Too easy though. It makes taking the belt on/off easier too because you don't have to hold the tensioner down to get the belt on. It's a little pricey, but worth it. I'd rather spend the 120-130 bucks to fix it than have the belt come off.

I wanted to follow up on this matter. I purchased the Katech solid belt tensioner,,, result: no problems with the belt coming off. I made 3 runs at Milan with no issues other than I could not hook up.
