Default Good Camshaft to get

Hey,
Just got a totally stock A4 TA. I want a camshaft with a lope and lots of power. What else will need to do for engine work to make sure no damage is done with cam. Also I am wanting to get some heads beut have not heard of anyone in particular that has the best ones. I dont want to do the heads more then once. I was thinking a stage II or stage III heads.

My mods will include:
FLP headers, Catback exhaust, eventually NOS/Supercharger

Thanks in advance
Mike

Really need to know what you want out of the car before advising on cam selection. How important is emissions testing, what type of testing, daily drivability matter?

It's hard to go wrong with a 220 to 224 sized cam.

Read up on the basic cam stuff on this site.

http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23#camhelp

You'll also need new springs and pushrods.

Might want to think in terms of spending a ~$1000 to do the new cam unless you do the work yourself. Most cam kit's will hit you for ~$650 and installs from $350 to $500

Tuning would be nice also

Reading up on the cam threads in this section will help get you to gain insight about LS1 cams. A few searchs will also turn up lots of reading.

I would suggest a aftermarket torque converter and sticky tires before even considering a cam for an A4 car.

um...better get your #'s right...think of spending around 1000 for parts and then tack on 350-500 for install unless you do it yourself
figure this
cam + springs + retainers + pushrods + double timing chain(stupid not to replace it at the same time)+ upgraded oil pump(again you're already there...5 more bolts and piece of mind)+ maybe 160 thermostat + TUNING(to get the best out of it

and figure on custom tuning being $450 bucks....
Figure more like $2000 if you do all that and have somebody else install it and tune it.

Emissions dont matter one bit
Daily driveability would be nice. I have been thinking the G5x2 cam.
Cost doesnt matter. I dumped a crap load into my 96

Actually, you might need to rethink your numbers

See the little ~ means approximate or about.

While it's better to do the new chain, oil pump & tune it isn't absolutely necessary.
