Default Microsoft vs General Motors

Below is the content of an email I received last week. The original
author of the content is not known and the quotes have not been
verified. Even so, it provides food for thought and could be the
beginnings of some interesting water cooler discussions.

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way
computers have enhanced our lives read on.

_____

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and stated,

''If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we
would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.''

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release
stating:

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving
cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........Twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to
buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You
would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows,
shut off the car, restart it, a nd reopen the windows before you could
continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause
your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would
have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was
reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would
run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all
be replaced by a single ''This Car Has Performed An Illegal
Operation'' warning light.

I love the next one!!!

7. The airbag system would ask ''Are you sure?'' before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out
and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door
handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would hav e to learn
how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate
in the same manner as the old car.

10. You have to press the ''Start'' button to turn the engine off

Yeah...but why would you refrain from downloading stuff if you can? I have a G4, G5 and Macbook Pro, have them all hooked up thru my network and download a lot of stuff. Neither of the 3 have antivirus or anti-spyware software (Mac OS X doesn't need any its that dope! ) and with minimal to no maintenance they are running in tip top shape! Can't say the same about my PC tho...i have it fully protected and its mainly used for Photoshop and like checking email and downloading updates but nothing else and it sucks. Its slow to start up, it crashes every now and them, has stupid little errors. My 5-6 year old Dual Processor G5 outperforms any PC you can buy out there right now and I can run windows on it ...lets face it people Windows blows

Well, even if the definition of "enterprise" datacenters have become increasingly blurry, one thing is clear. When we're talking about the biggest (or most critical) systems out there, they're not running windows.

Reference:
http://www.top500.org/stats/list/31/osfam
( Top 500 supercomputers in the world )

Indeed, MacOS is at 0.4% and Windows is at 1%.
However, if we group it by family and ancestry, we get:
UNIX 91%
Windows 1%
Mixed 8%

And 10 years experience as a systems architect also tells me that the reason any company with an ounce of intelligence only runs windows on any critical system because getting engineers for windows-systems is easier and cheaper.

But, I don't like "OS Wars". To each its own. If you're happy with windows, stick with it. But, please don't discount other systems if you haven't given them a proper try.

Macs for me? Please... I am in IT professional and I have rolled out 100 macs to a facility and imaged them via network and it was easy but for working on Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, and servers directly they aren't worth ****.

UNIX has always owned; similar to AIX. You get some big bucks for being a UNIX expert

Seriuosly you should give em a try all bullshit aside....as a personal comp they are without a doubt superior...I used to love windows but would never go back now...only reason why some smaller companies run windows is because they have a small budget. Anyway, let's just agree to disagree and I'll stick with the better OS jk

I feel I should say something in here cuz I'm a computer genius. lol But I really have nothing to say. If you know what you're doing you won't have problems with any of the OSs. Just some are more dumbed down than others.
