I have a 08 GP GXP and my friend just got a 06 pusstang gt, i know that if its an auto then i dont have anything to worry about, but i have heard that they manuals are pretty quick, and im not sure what he has. but if its a stick then do i still have a chance? im stock btw also should i race him in tapshift or auto mode? thanx

I'd say its a drivers race

I'd say the Mustang wins. Motor Trend tested an 05 GT auto that hit 60 in 5.1 and the quarter in 13.6. They also ran a 5-speed GT against a 5.7L Charger, and the Mustang did a 13.5@103mph. If your friend can drive, he'll win. Our cars are usually good for a high 13 to low 14 in the quarter. But I say do it anyway, and have fun!
Check out these links for the times I mentioned.

thanx for the replies guys, i think that it will mainly depend on if hes stick or not.. my question is why are those cars so fast if they only have a 4.6? their power to weight ratio must be amazing is all i can think of

4DoorSS has a good point. Street racing is much different than a magazine testing a car on their track with a pro driver and pro equipment. In real-world races a lot depends on the driver of each car.
As far as why the Mustang is so fast check this link:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0411_2005_ford_mustang_gt/photo_11.html
Essentially it says that Ford underrated the 4.6 in the 2005+ Gt's. Assuming a 15% drivetrain power loss the Stang actually makes about 317 HP at the crank versus our 303. And they are lighter, but not by much. Also, gearing and transmission make a difference, the Mustang has a more aggressive gear ratio, and the auto is a five speed. That can make or break a race, as the more aggressive gears get the car into the power band faster.
You also asked about racing with TapShift. In my experience it doesn't make much difference. The computer is pretty good about shifting at the right points when the car is driven hard. If you do use TS in the race, remember to shift up well before redline, as the tranny is still an auto and shifts like one even when you are telling it when to shift. Meaning it shifts up pretty slow compared to a true stick and clutch car. If you don't shift up before redline, you may find yourself bouncing off the rev limiter, and will lose the race for sure. I did this myself a few times when I first got the car, thinking the tranny would upshift faster, only to hit the limiter after I pressed the paddle to shift up.

thanks for all the replies this site is much faster than any of the 3 sites that i have been going to, but yea i use the tapshift frequently but not enough to where i feel comfortable using it in a race. but i will let you all know what happens

GXP is a torque monster! just set your tire to 27psi launch it about 1600rpms(power brake it) rapidly let go of brake and smoothly&easy peddle to the metal watch out for breaking loose you must feel your car as if its apart of you once you hook up that mustang would need way more than 300hp to pass you up................I've done many 2.00 60ft on my stock GXP/tires................and please no sleeping at the wheel many people loose that way and is imberASSing its called driver mod......ps do all this in drive no Tap-Shift.

They have the same horsepower and weigh less than us, that's why. Goodluck.

ive seen this a few times but what does ls4gxp mean when he says 2.00, 60 ft?

Good driver in a 5-speed GT can see mid-13's stock. He's saying his 60 foot time was 2 seconds, also. I agree, though, that FWD > RWD in matters of torque delivery and outrunning a Mustang. You'll be fine.

Its his 60ft time at the track if you ever go to the track this time is gonna basically show how fast you get off the line id say anything from 2.2 secs to 1.9 or 1.8 would be great if you could get it without breaking somthing:chug:

Auto to auto, you'll pull your own, drivers race, auto to stick, if he cant drive well, its your win, otherwise he wins.

thanks a lot for your time...but anyway i didnt want to make a new thread but i was wondering if anyone with a GXP had a rattle in the HUD. im not positive if it is IN the HUD but i know its definitely around it. it rattles really bad whenever i go over bumpy roads or if i turn up the bass slightly. i am going to get it fixed soon. Its under warranty but i was just wondering if anyone else had this problem. it started doing it about a week after i bought the car.

I use to own a 06 Mustang GT 5-speed. Right after I came from a dumdumdumdumdum. So I definitely was not use to RWD. But with 500 miles on the clock I ran 14.0@100.8 in the dead heat of august. Car's race weight was 3470 and 3700lbs with me in it. My friend had one also and ran similiar times. Then we were trying different things and he got his down to 13.6@94. Told him to try leaving it 3rd. Didn't work out to well. I lost mine in a flood soon after. But my friend after more seat time and better weather, managed a 13.43@103.xx bone stock.
And if you add a 93 tune, cai, and LCA's. All you will see is tail lights. Especially from a dig. With that setup many have seen high 12's @105-107ish.

I'm undefeated against Mustang GTs so I'm pretty sure you can take him. The entire key like others have said is launching. Find a nice backroad and practice it, remember to turn the traction control off and all that. On a few of passes I've had Mustangs outlaunch me and had to run it nice and high to get past them.
Once you're out in front, there is no replacement for diplacement and the 5.3 will smack around the 4.6.

I've raced a couple GT's auto's and each time were from a roll around 25 mph with TC off and in drive with 92 octane in the tank. The 25 range helped my TC launch to keep a 1/2 car lead to 80 and pulled a tad bit more to the finsh at 100 mph. Sometimes when you creep from a dig and feel 1st grab and then punch it so it downshifts and TC is up, it moves pretty quick that way.
From a dig, massive tq steer. hope the stang spins.
I also raced the same two GT's from a roll manually shifting from 1st through the gears and gained more against each. So use your tap shifter when driving. Just make sure you keep an eye on your tach and don't listen to the stangs exhaust.
I raced a 5 sp with exhaust, tune and K&N on the highway from 50 mph. I tapped the gas pedal to wake up the converter and took him off the line until 85 - 90 mph and then he just passed me and beat me by 2 cars. No way to catch him. He's a friend so i know the mods and he can drive. Surprised him though...
BTW, all stock with a dirty paper filter.
Good luck and let us know how it turned. Sometimes you gotta do it for the thrill...

alright, ill have to be doing it soon b/c hes getting an intake and i believe a tune soon so then it wouldnt be a fair stock for stock race..but i have found out when experimenting with the tapshift that if you drive it right, it really helps out if your starting from a roll. ive got one more question though..why did some of you say turn off T/C?

with t/c on it limits the amount of power your car will put down when launching. With it off the computer uses little torque managment to stop the tires from spinning. so with t/c on you wont really spin much but with t/c off and your good at launching, you have more power at your disposal and can launch faster but that requires more skill with the gas pedel. Remember dont just punch the gas to the floor you need to balance it so you dont really spin your tires but too little gas and you wont go anywhere fast. Its hard to do, espcially in our cars.

well guys i hate to pop all the anticipation but the owner of the pustang was racing my friend today and spun out at 100mph, he now needs 4 new tires and an alignment, and after all of that whos to say that the spin out didnt take his balls out with it... but anyway he says that he pulled the ebrake and spun out..but my friend said that he moved into the other lane and oversteered it too much and spun out.. imho i think that he just fucked up and doesnt want to admit it.

I'm sure it was on purpose :eyes: whenever I loose I hit the ebrake at 100+ so at least it's a cool exit

he was only racing a 97 gtp lol... but he said it wasnt a real race he just "did it" i still think that he lost control, hes lucky no one hit him, there was traffic behind him and he almost hit the median
