I really need answers on what to do about exhaust on my 2001 ram air
I have a 01 WS6I just boought in vry good shape with 111k miles on it...engine light is on and last owner said cats are bad is why...well I dont want cats anyways so I went to the exhaust shop and asked them what it would be to put new high flow cats,y pipe, muffler on and keep my tips...he said cats alone are $365 a piece for OEM cats...im not doing that and I dont like the stock exhaust at all...I live in illinois and emmisions is strict...a couple people told me to cut the cats out or gut them and put them back and install just the front 2 o2 sensors and plug the back 2 sensors, and the engine light will be on but people can make that light go off for when emmisions time comes....could I gut them and weld them back up with the o2 sensors back in, and then just order a catback system to put on myself or what?...I have acces to a welder....what does everyone do in a sisuation like this when they have to pass emmissins but dont want cats robbing their hard earned HP?

free flowing has nothing to do with a sniffer test. A sniffer test reads the amount of pollutants the exhaust is putting out. If you have a sniffer test it will be very very difficult to pass without cats.

you don't have to gut the cats. If you don't want them, take them off and weld in some tubing.
get the codes deleted or run o2 sims.
There is no sniffer or visual in Illinois for obd2 cars like yours and every other 1996+ car.
