98 pcm and 99 pcm
What are the differences in these 2 years? Basically I'm looking into swapping transmissions with a guy who has a 99 auto and mine is a 98 6 speed.

Totally different beasts. To swap from your 1998 to a 1999 you will need the harness, gauge cluster and fuel level sender (IIRC). The pinout from the PCM have different locations. If you only swap transmission, it will be a direct bolt in.

The computer swap can be done.
It requires changing all 160 wires on the PCM connectors, and some creative tuning with EFI Live but no other parts need to be changed.
For your situation, this does not seem necessary. You can swap the Transmission and Harness and have your tuner re-program the PCM for the automatic.

You can also just depin the trans portion of each harness and swap that between the cars. Label the wires as you remove them and use a diagram to know what spot to put them in the other PCM. Then, just reflash the PCM for the correct trans and you are set.
