Default are my headers holding me back?

forced into a set of headers. wanted to get my setup running and didnt want to build a set.
didnt matter then, but now its a lil wilder, and wondering if they are keeping me from faster ET's.

1 3/4 primary
2.5" formed collectors.
3" y pipe running out a full single 4 inch exhaust dumped in the factory location.
ive talked with some local engine builders and whatnot and say that my exhaust is restrictive. took it off, even saving the weight, the car didnt 60ft as well, and didnt ET or mph any better.
ive also been told to try out a set of merge collectors.
maybe i have all i need already?

stock 6.0 longblock with a 235/237 599/602 cam.
5000 stall
4.33 gears.
3400# raceweight
im looking for more ET only. not a fashion statement, or 4 more hp to show im a dyno queen.

Pretty close to my build. I would say N/A 3" is probably too small for us. I just bought edelbrock shorties and will install 2.5" sidepipes next week. You NEED true duals with that cam - I was told it was small, but the cam is rather large. Depending on LSA it loves revving too, single 3" just doesn't seem to want to support the flow. I only put down 289RWHP as it sits

I have a:
LQ9/317 heads
LS6 Intake
Comp Rs/921 springs
232/234 cam
3000 stall
1999 manifolds
and 2.5" Y pipe back

this cam is an older futral design, and it works flawlessly. 112+2lsa.
i shift at 6900, only because im scared to take it farther. i swaer the higher it revs, the faster it will go.
there is a thread about true duals vs a single 4" with a 3" y pipe. i dont think there is any glory in going true duals, or i would have done it already.

custom is the only way to go. the y pipe from stainless works is a joke. im glad i didnt buy it. add in a spohn torque arm and it gets really ugly.

Yeah, that's kinda why i decided on going with sidepipes. With the High RPMs that these cams like - I can't force myself to spend lots of money on a Y pipe and catback that i will outgrow. Now i just have to make sure it doesn't look hacked up and redneck when i get it done.

What does your build up consist of? My build is basically the same, but your times indicate a PRETTY aggressive build lol

pretty much whats in my initial post.
its full suspension, electric water pump, pulley, bout it. pretty basic.
it runs extremely fast for what it is.
im now 100 pounds lighter(40 ish of that is rolling weight)
trying to make the track tomorrow night. i dont know if it will go mid 80's, but id like an 87 or 88 to say i did something. hard to pick up when you are already going fast.

a single 3" flows pretty well and with a good ory with something like the flowmaster merge is a good combo. going through 1 3/4 qtp headers and their ory from a single 3" hooker catback to an open cutout i only gain about 15 rw. of course if i had 1 7/8 headers and dual cutouts it may/may not pick up alittle more who knows.
with your setup i don't think you will gain enough to mess with right now.
