Default convertible transmission crossmember question

I am parting out a 96 Firebird convertible that has a V6 and a automatic transmission. I noticed what appears to be a frame or body support directly under the car that is shaped like a "X" and is attached to the body and crossmember. Will this support work in my car? It is a 96 Firebird Formula with a LT1 and a 6 speed tranny. I looked under the LT1 car and the crossmember does not look like the one that I took out of the convertible. I guess I am just wondering if the setup out of the automatic V6 car will bolt directly into the LT1 6 speed car without any modifications to help give it strength thanks for any help J

I don't know about the manual transmission, but I have a LT1 automatic convertible and it has the X type brace you're talking about.

That subframe brace is to replace the support lost from having a roof. I'd have to see pics as well to tell if it'd be able to work on a Coupe.

Click "Go Advanced" and then click "Managed Attachements". Just make sure the pictures are HUGE

I am working on getting the pics posted and if it works I will have them on tonight,,I do have a interesting question,, my car is a 96 Firebird Formula with the LT1 and a 6 speed. Is it possible to yank out the LT1 and put in a LS3,, I have been crunching the numbers and for what I would want to do to a LT1 I can buy a crate LS3. What all issues would I run into,, will the wireing work, will the motor bolt in without modifications, will my 6 speed bolt up to it, I know headers will need to be changed, Will the computer need recurved,,?? does anyone offer a swap kit or is there a list of issues I will need to take car of. I am considdering doing this but want to make it as simple as possible,, I will be using a friends lift and dont want to hog up his shop for any long period of time.. everyone tells me to go and buy a T/A that has a LS1 in it and then do the swap but my car is already paid for and I think if this can be done it would be a absolute sleeper, I want to thank everyone for there help and offerings J

I think the only thing you can keep is the trans with a bellhousing change. The computer and everything else has to be changed. The motor will drop in no problem though. PM the_merv (heh sorry Merv, I tell everyone to PM you since you did such a great job) about doing the swap. He will probably save you a few thousand by going an different motor route and still having an LS motor

Had I the money, I'd mirror what Merv did in a heart beat.

Yea, PM me your number bro and I'll give you a call.. the Gen III and Gen IV Engines have some differences with wiring them as well..even on top of what you have to do to get it in a LT1 Car.

My Sig tells what I have... it gives a very nice meaning to the term "sleeper"..
