82 z28 failed emmissions, gf wants full exhaust
What are my options? Its a carbed 350
Its going to get a big block eventually so i want to get that size exhaust
Im just gonna get the hedman headers cause theyre cheap and will be replaced soon.
Should i run cats or is there a way to get around them like the newer f-bodies?
And we chose sweet thunder as the mufflers.
Thanks for the help in advance

Mufflex 4 inch should do the trick. Nice kits, easy to install. You will just need to have a proper y-pipe fabbed up by your local shop to make it work best once that big block goes in.
And since I know someone is gonna say to run true duals, they fit like **** cause the floor pan isn't designed for them and a signle 4 flows better anyway.
If you fab up a y-pipe with cheap cats, just to get you through emissions, you can go back adn punch them or put in test pipes or whatever.

remember too that DE has that stupid 94 dB at 4 feet (or somthing) noise law. I never understood it. I mean you are in a damn building and it is noisey, how they get an accurate reading. Any way i had dual 3 inch on my old Impala with a BBC. Seemed to breath fine. I am currently running test pipes where my cats should be and i have been fine, also not gotten pulled over yet.. LOL. BUt i am probally gonna put the cats back on and / or get a set to punch out so if i do get a mirror under the car i not be in deep ****..

I have a fual setup that I had my fab guy build, no x or h in it, just 2 extensions off the headers to 4 super 44 mufflers and then it turns otu in frotn of the rear tires. You will need to add cats to it to get it to pass the sniffer, but you can punch them out after the test. The system still has decent clearance, and I had it done in 3.5 inch pipe.
2 pcs of 3.5 inch pipe, if that doesn't flow enough for a BBC I dunno what to tell ya. Surprisingly quiet too, and at about 40 lbs ( you will be heavier due to the cats) it's alot lighter then running a y pipe and a 4 inch out the back, which was my other option.

Screw legal, that's not even an option if you want to put a BBC in the car.
3 inch dual, right off the collector, to a "cat", or at least soemthing that looks like one to a super 44 oneach side, and aim it out in front of the rear tire.
Light, ground clearnance isn't that bad, and will flow what you need it to.
Anyone that is concerned with what's legal and what's not is not a place you want to go.

Do a search for fake cats, unless you actually have to get the car sniffed, I'd put something on there that "looks" like cats, there's a import site that sells a cat looking piece of pipe, it has the outer shield/case with a strait piece of 3 inch pipe thru the middle. I personally would do those if you don't have a sniff test. If it has to get sniffed, a set of magnaflow cats, or call ARH they have a high flow cat that's pretty good too.

If it gets sniffed, a set of magnaflow cats will take care of that, I'd mount the cats as close to the header as ya can, little pipe just to get them in the right spot, then run some off the back of the cat to a super 44, and then just dump it.
I know the X/H pipe is supposed to make more power but for ease of removal/installation I wouldn't do it. The 5 to 10 hp vs the added weight, I'd take he weight break for something I can easily pop on and off in 10 min.
