Default 4L60 to 72 speedo

Anyone know a simple way to convert the 4L60 (1996) pulses to a 72 elcamino speedometer?

Isn't there a kit that is made now where you can switch out the Tail Shaft housing and put on the little Gear Ring so you can adapt the old Speedo's to the new Trannies?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was just a manual drive piece that fits into the actual electrical sensor's spot.

I thought 93's had 'mechanical' speedos, but I guess I don't quite follow what they mean since I know mine isn't cable driven and neither was my 91, or my 90 Suburban.

It's a 4L60E out of a 96 Impala, I have it in a 72 Elcamino.

Pull the tailhousing and check the tailshaft to verify it has what you need. You should see 2 small holes after you pull the tone ring off. If you have holes, you are fine; all you need to do is buy the correct speedo gear and the small metal retainer clip (that fits in the 2 holes) and slide it on. Then, just get the speedo cable portion for a 700R4 and put that in the tailshaft housing.

If your output shaft doesn't have the 2 holes, some guys have put the nylon ring on and epoxied it but I wouldn't recommend that. IF the holes are missing, pay a trans shop to swap the output shaft out for a 700R4 one that used a mechanical speedo. If they have a used output shaft, they should only charge around 100-150 to swap it out for you.

So then what does he do to feed the proper signal to the PCM to shift the trans

This is a much better solution

Duh. Good point. There are also boxes that came on mid 80's suburbans that hook up to a cable output on the trans. You have a stub cable that goes to the box then your regular speedo cable hooks up to the output side of the box. The box has the built in pulse generator to feed the PCM. You just have to get the PCM flashed to calibrate it for the proper pulses per revolution so the trans shifts correctly.
