Default Is it normal for the motor to bounce around/shake after...

a cam install? The reason why I mentioned the cam, was beause I never experienced this with the stock one! The motor shakes, but its not consistent. It will come and go. It gets worse when I turn on the A/C! For a second, the motor will run smooth, but then it starts jumping/shaking again! Is it the cam? Some say that a big cam will do that! Im running the MTI C2 cam from MTI (224/.581/112), but I dont consider that big. Then Ive also heard that the cam has nothing to do with it and it may be just missing. What do think? Thanks

Sounds more like miss to me...got any SES codes? Double check your wires on both plug and coil pack ends. As well vacuum hoses on back of intake for AIR module, and brake booster.

well, its hard to tell how badly you are talking about, but absolutely.

The engine will idle far less smoothly with a C2 than with a stock cam. You will feel this in the gear shift, in the seat, and objects in your rear view mirror may get blurry or shake.

The 112 LS is most of the culprit. The 114 seems to idle alot better.

Some people put in a came just for that Muscle Car Shake

Yes, but that have to do with the O2 sensors/headers, code PO135/PO155.

Double check your wires on both plug and coil pack ends.
What is it exactly that you want me to double check?

As well vacuum hoses on back of intake for AIR module, and brake booster
Would that make it bounce shake?

Thanks for the input! Keep 'em comin'!

He wants you to check your spark plug wires. Make sure they are well seated on both the plug and the coil pack.

I know your car. I pretty sure your just talking about the lope from that cam. Same as Justin's (SSable). Next time you go to F&H compare it to his.

LOL...yeah its normal. I put in one urethane motor mount to keep it down and it seems to have helped a lot as my car barely shakes at idle with cam in sig.

My 2 cents, Its the cam. If you are missing, you would through a code, quick. also you would feel the smoothness in reving go to hell.

Yup. It's the cam. You may get used to it, you may not. My cam has such a large split duration that it still shakes pretty decent with the A/C on, but is tolerable with the A/C off now that it's tuned. I also have a urethane tranny mount, which doesn't help matters since more of the vibration is transferred into the passenger compartment. I may remove it. Haven't decided. Before tuning, I also had surging and stalling with the A/C on. It still stalls and surges a bit on warm starts on occasion, but nothing like it used to. I'm told getting heads will help with the idle somewhat. We'll see.

Yeah, Wait until you put in poly engine mounts and polt tranny mount. My car shakes like hell while idling, but the feel of it while on the gas makes it all worth while. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

So that's my answer. I've always thought my engine bounced around alot. Although smaller, I've got 8* of separation. Think I'll switch to that custom 230/224 111LSA and get rid of some of that shake

I had the poly tranny mount (both prothane & ES) and took both off. But I would like to put at least one poly engine mount in. People see my engine shake and say I need new mounts. They are the original mounts w/ 80K miles, 69K of that with aftermarket heads/cam/etc. How do you know if you need new mounts when the engine shakes like this?

Where do you buy one? Or do you have to make it yourself?

Check the second pic I just added..... you have to work it in with some force but it will slide in ... lube the hook helps.

Yeah....these pics show I still have some work... those pullies need some cleaning also.... never ending. Huge difference in driveability! Transmits more torque to the drivetrain and no more exhaust banging. I now have my ds orp within 1/2 in. of the floor board. No cons... just check to make sure the bracket is torqued down to specs....there are two different specs.
