Default Installed LS6 Intake Today

I decided to tackle the intake swap today in my driveway. With a little help from install university and various notes from around here.

I put the front end on ramps to make it a little higher to reach, definitely saved my back, however the backs of my legs are a different story.

The removal was a little rough, trying to avoid breaking the dreaded oil pressure sending unit. (Success!!!! Oil pressure unit is intact) I made sure I lifted the intake and also the brake booster line at the same time. Swung the front end towards the driver fender. Came right out.

I was going to replace the knock sensors and harness however they look almost brand new. They must have been replaced prior to when I bought my car 2 years ago.

Everything reassembled easier than the removal.

Only thing I wish I would have done was remove the cowl prior to working on the rear bolts. Quite a few scratches and a little blood donated to the LS1 powers that be!

Went out for a ride to test it out, does feel like I gained some additional power.

Huh? Did I miss something important here? Can you remove the cowl on the Firebirds ?

(I installed my LS6 intake yesterday, and I've got the cuts to prove it... )

When I put the LS6 intake on my car I noticed a good gain in the midrange power and even more on the top end. Definitely worth doing the swap.

Somehow I managed to escape without any cuts. I sat inside the engine bay for most of the removal and install though.

Took me five hours, while helping my friend doing a tranny swap in a 69 Nova..

If you're an A4, getting rid of the transmission dip-stick tube will save you a lot of time.

Took me about 4 1/2 hrs. I definitely took my time to try and avoid the oil pressure sender.

Nope, not an A4.

Trying to decide if I want to tackle this myself. Ive got a bad back and Im 6'5" so I dont think 5 hours of bending over would be good for it.

BTW Dave, great looking formula!

If you have everything that you need it shouldn't take 5 hours. I've done the swap quite a few times so I could probably do it in an hour and half.

i installed mine the other day with a buddy, it took a few hours. we couldnt get the fuel line off, so we said **** it and left it on. just moved the fuel rails around it. but i did notice some power increase and a big difference in gas mileage on the highway. worth the money.

The one tool I felt could have made the job a fair bit quicker would be a 8mm ratcheting wrench for the three bolts on the very back of the intake.

A fuel-line disconnect tool also helps, but isn't required.

I agree. Just make sure you get a good one that has more than 24 clicks per rotation. I had to go back and forth twice to get my cheapy craftsman to click once on the one below the transmission dipstick.

It took about 2 hours start to finish for me. I had a friend helping that knew how to do the swap already. We took the ls6 intake off of one car and put it on mine, then put my ls1 intake back on the other car. So really we did 2 swaps in 2 hours. It is really straight forward once you get into it.
